This live stage show brings the Egyptians roaring back to life with actors, eye-popping 3D effects and all the gore-tastic detail that made the books so irresistible. Tickets from £20.50 and best suited to ages 5+, so maybe leave the tiniest tots at home for this one. Educational and horribly entertaining in equal measure – our favourite combination.</p>

Head to the American Air Museum, hunt down hidden letters scattered throughout, and see if you can unscramble the secret word before the kids beat you to it (they will). Simple, satisfying and entirely free – exactly the kind of low-effort, high-reward outing that makes summer holidays bearable.</p>

A brilliant one for rainy days, tired legs, or simply when you need twenty minutes of wonder between the school shoe shop and lunch.</p>

<p>Get the kids harvesting, chopping and cooking over an open flame – what could possibly go wrong! Start in the kitchen garden picking your own ingredients, then head to the wood-fired oven to whip up seasonal salads, grilled veg and flatbreads. Ages 5+ (under-12s need an adult in tow), and a genuinely brilliant way to make fussy eaters fall in love with vegetables.</p>

Ferry Meadows goes all in with daily activities running right through the holidays, from wildlife workshops to holiday clubs and every outdoor adventure you can shake a paddle at – think dragon and swan pedalos, kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards. Fancy staying dry(ish)? Grab a bike and tackle the Summer Holiday Adventure Trail instead. Basically your entire &#8220;what shall we do today&#8221; problem, solved for a month and a half.</p>

A brilliantly sneaky way to get kids fascinated by flora without them ever realising it&#8217;s basically learning.</p>

<p>Quantum Theatre bring Beatrix Potter&#8217;s best-loved troublemakers to life in this enchanting stage adaptation, following Peter and his cousin Benjamin as they ignore every piece of good advice and sneak into Mr McGregor&#8217;s garden anyway. Cue nets, cats and a proper Mr McGregor face-off. Timeless mischief, brought vividly to life – ideal for the littlest Potter fans.</p>

Expect sorcery round every corner and alchemy at every turn, with the historic house and gardens providing the perfect atmospheric backdrop.</p>

Circus Hassani returns with breathtaking acrobatics and classic big-top thrills, and this year there&#8217;s an extra treat – the show lands inside the newly refurbished Castle Theatre, reopened just in time to host all the action.
