<p>Slap bang in the middle of one of the most beautiful cities in England, where centuries-old colleges and cobbled lanes compete for your camera roll at every corner, sits <a href="https://www.wilde.com/cambridge/city-centre" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wilde</a> – the aparthotel that&#8217;s fast becoming the smartest address in town. With 227 studio and one-bedroom apartments, this isn&#8217;t your bog-standard hotel stay; think proper space, proper independence, and interiors that have clearly had some serious thought put into them. Bespoke furnishings, local artwork on the walls, and a genuine eco-conscience running through the building (solar panels and bee hotels included) mean it feels as considered as it does comfortable.</p>



<p>I&#8217;ve been lucky enough to stay at <a href="https://suffolkcambs.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/wilde-aparthotels-cambridge/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wilde</a> three times now, but this trip – with the whole family in tow – might just be my favourite yet.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>Ground floor is home to Oscar&#8217;s, and it&#8217;s brilliant at being three things at once: boutique café-bar, sociable lounge, and a co-working spot that never once feels like you&#8217;re clocking in. Warm lighting and a menu that flexes with the time of day make it somewhere a quick coffee turns into an accidental afternoon, or a light lunch drifts happily into evening cocktails on the terrace. There&#8217;s even a little shop tucked in selling local produce and ready-made dishes for the nights you can&#8217;t be bothered to leave the building.</p>



<p>Practicalities are all present and correct too – 24-hour reception, a decent fitness room, and in-house laundry, so the boring stuff is sorted and you can get on with actually enjoying yourself.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>

<p>Breakfast at Oscar&#8217;s looks pricey on the menu at £19.99 – until it lands on the table and you realise it&#8217;s basically three courses. Tea or coffee to start, then a choice of juice, pastry, or granola and yoghurt (the almond croissants deserve a special mention – they were the size of a small football). Then comes the &#8220;main&#8221; – a full English, avocado on sourdough with a poached egg, or a sausage, bacon and egg bap that&#8217;s more gourmet burger than greasy spoon staple. We ate ours out on the new terrace under a parasol in 35-degree heat, and for a good hour it genuinely felt like we were on a beach holiday rather than in the middle of a city centre.</p>

<p>Round the corner, Jack&#8217;s Gelato is an essential pit stop – yes, the queue snakes down the street, but it&#8217;s worth every minute of the wait. Consider it my new favourite ice cream spot, officially unlocked.</p>

<p>Cocktail-wise, the Grantchester Spritz is the new Aperol and Oscar&#8217;s bar makes an excellent late-evening hideout once the kids are down – laptop optional, but recommended.</p>

<p>Wilde&#8217;s family one-bedroom apartments sleep up to four and solve the single biggest problem with hotel stays and small children: space. Ours had a separate bedroom away from the living area, so once our little one was asleep, my husband and I still had somewhere to actually sit and be adults. A kitchen and dining space meant we could rustle up our own lunches (and blast the air-con, which on a 35-degree Cambridge day was an actual lifesaver). Complimentary cots and highchairs are available too, which takes one less thing off the packing list.</p>

<p>There&#8217;s a lift on hand, plus no steps to navigate either into the hotel or out onto the terrace, making it an easy in-and-out whatever you&#8217;ve got in tow.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dog-friendly">DOG-FRIENDLY</h2>



<p>Woof indeed! Wilde is clearly a hit with four-legged guests too – I once spotted a very well-dressed pooch (pearl-encrusted collar and lead, no less) waiting for the lift with its owner. Bringing your pup along costs £20 per night, plus a one-off £50 deep clean fee.</p>

<p>Enormously so. This is where Wilde earns its stripes as a family stay – full kitchens, complimentary cots and highchairs, and enough room for little ones to actually run around rather than bouncing off hotel-room walls. Family one-bedroom apartments sleeping up to four start from £180 a night, and with Jesus Green Lido just an eight-minute walk away, there&#8217;s an easy outdoor swim on tap when the weather plays ball. </p>

<p>You couldn&#8217;t ask for a better base. Wilde sits right in the city centre, so shopping is sorted within minutes, and it&#8217;s directly opposite The Orator – both a restaurant and the venue for Cambridge&#8217;s famous student debates. Jesus Green is a five-minute stroll away and made for a lovely spot for a picnic under one of its huge shady trees, and it&#8217;s also where we picked up our punting tour with the <strong><a href="https://traditionalpuntingcompany.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Traditional Punting Company</a></strong> for a lazy drift along the Cam. History lovers are surrounded by the city&#8217;s iconic colleges, and the <a href="https://www.botanic.cam.ac.uk/whats-on/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Botanic Gardens</a> are an easy ten-minute bus ride if you fancy somewhere greener for the afternoon.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-verdict">THE VERDICT</h2>



<ul>
<li><strong>Good for:</strong> Families after real space rather than a cramped double room, couples wanting a stylish city bolthole, remote workers who fancy a change of scene, and anyone who wants to explore Cambridge without sacrificing home comforts.</li>



<li><strong>Not for:</strong> Anyone after a traditional hotel experience with round-the-clock room service – this is about independence and space, not butler bells.</li>
