<p>Sequestered away in 10 acres of stunning re-wilded farm land, this waterside wonderland is the perfect place for anyone looking to rest, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the great outdoors. If you want to get away from it all without actually having to go too far, <a href="https://www.blythrisestays.co.uk/lodges" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Blyth Rise Stays</a>, an adults-only lakeside haven, with 12 beautiful self-catering lodges near Framlingham, is the place to book.</p>



<p>There&#8217;s family-run businesses and then there are passion projects like Blyth Rise Stays. Pam and Mark (mum and dad) are the nature experts and since 2008 have lovingly hand planted over 2,500&nbsp;trees, shrubs, bushes as well as thousands of flowers, including wild flower mounds and over 4,000 daffodils. Just let that sink in for a second. Every tree and plant you see from out of your lodge or igloo windows have been planted by the family. Now, sisters Katie and Laura run the business, with Katie also teaching the al fresco yoga sessions. </p>



<p>This is local done right. It&#8217;s quite literally homegrown and your stay will feel so personal and considered, you&#8217;ll be forgiven if you don&#8217;t want to return home!</p>

<p>This is going off grid, without actually going off grid. There&#8217;s no WiFi or TVs in the accommodation, so screen time is at a minimum, and for a reason. This is your chance to properly switch off. Instead, there are books, boardgames and puzzles to keep you entertained. Along with a box filled with bird-watching treasures &#8211; think binoculars, a log book and all the countryside silence which means you can actually hear them. </p>



<p>Blyth Rise Stays is basically a DIY wellness retreat. Luxurious accommodation, lakeside walks, weekly yoga sessions and you can even book in-room beauty treatments with fantastic local beauty therapist, <a href="https://www.blythrisestays.co.uk/wellness" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Amanda Smith</a>. I treated myself to a gorgeous 30-minute facial. I had wanted the Sculpt &amp; Lift treatment, but Amanda suggested that we go for the Cleanse &amp; Nourish, to give my skin the moisture-hit it so desperately needed. And let me tell you, as someone who has been lucky enough to have a lot of treatments, this was a facial like no other. There was no slap dash layering of products, this was a proper massage for the face. Goodbye tension, hello glowing, relaxed skin. </p>

<p>Then, to continue your mellow feeing, stroll across the tree-lined path from your lodge to visit the two beautiful iglu-saunas tucked into the woodland. Simply book your hour slot at the honesty shop next to the office. I booked my session for 9-10pm, which really helped me to sink into a deep sleep, once back at my lodge. </p>

<p>Blyth Rise Stays can host up to 18 people when fully booked out. Choose between six chic stylish waterside lodges that have two bedrooms and sleep up to four, or the six quirky Igluhuts, with their cosy and curvaceous interiors that would make for a romantic getaway. Inside is stunning interiors with colour pop soft furnishings, Scandi-style wooden walls, local artwork and contemporary kitchens and bathrooms. Believe me, you&#8217;ll wish you actually lived here. </p>

<p>I stayed in the Bramley Lodge. Each room has floor to ceiling windows and doors with countryside views, which open onto a private terrace. And because we&#8217;re in Britain, I got to enjoy all the weather in just 48 hours! My terrace was a little sun trap and I was often visited by dragonflies, a little Chaffinch, rabbits and muntjac. Then, one morning, I opened my curtains and listened to the rain patter on the windows from the comfort of my bed. </p>



<p>Inside, you&#8217;ll find local toiletries from <a href="https://www.norfolknaturalliving.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Norfolk Natural Living</a>, and there&#8217;s an honesty shop filled with delicious local treats to enjoy throughout your stay &#8211; just pay at the end of your stay. </p>

<p>Being self-catering, Blyth Rise puts you firmly in charge of your own culinary destiny. The fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need to knock something together, and when the sun&#8217;s out, fire up the BBQ and make the most of that glorious outdoor space. Better still, the retreat&#8217;s honesty shop is stocked with local goodies that&#8217;ll do all the hard work for you – think <a href="https://theblackdogdelis.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Black Dog Deli</a> and <a href="https://harrisandjames.com/?srsltid=AfmBOorgtRfMQ5XlwWfQTpidfwQGs9qXkv2iLvGHE4V65plqx5kXcCCV" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harris &amp; James</a>. Frankly, you could happily stay put the entire stay and eat like a queen.</p>

<p>That said, it would be a shame not to venture out into the village. A ten-minute stroll brings you to <a href="https://www.lowhouselaxfield.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Low House</a> – also known as the King&#8217;s Head, depending on who you ask – and it deserves every local legend status it&#8217;s earned. Step inside these 16th century walls and you&#8217;re walking into a pub that&#8217;s barely changed since Victoria was on the throne. All crackling atmosphere and proper pub classics, homemade and bursting with flavour. Walking back through Laxfield village afterwards, the fresh air in your lungs and a good meal in your belly, it genuinely feels like you&#8217;ve been whisked a million miles from everyday life – in the very best way. Holiday vibes in a countryside village. What more could you want?</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-kid-friendly">KID-FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>Hard no – and hallelujah for that. Blyth Rise is a strictly adults-only retreat, so pencil in a sitter, wave goodbye to the little ones and give yourself full permission to exhale. I visited with a fellow tired mum and can wholeheartedly recommend 48 hours of quiet, calm and the sheer luxury of finishing a whole sentence.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dog-friendly">DOG-FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>Sadly not – and yes, that includes the exceptionally well-behaved ones. The facilities just aren&#8217;t there yet to welcome four-legged guests, but don&#8217;t despair: there&#8217;s plenty of wildlife roaming the grounds to get your animal fix in the meantime.</p>

<p>The whole ethos of Blyth Rise is to unplug, switch off and let the frenetic pace of modern life become someone else&#8217;s problem for a while. But if the urge to explore gets the better of you, you&#8217;re in excellent company. The historic towns of Framlingham and Halesworth – both brimming with independent shops, great cafes and weekly markets – are just a 15-minute drive away. And if it&#8217;s the Suffolk coast calling your name, you&#8217;re spoilt for choice: Southwold, Walberswick, Aldeburgh and Dunwich are all within easy reach for a gloriously breezy day trip.</p>

<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Romantic getaways, girly weekends, solo creative escapes or the grown-up version of a family trip (adults only, remember). We have it on good authority that local authors and musicians regularly hole up here to get their next big project off the ground – and one look at the surroundings and you&#8217;ll completely understand why.<br><strong>Not for:</strong> Those who can&#8217;t sort childcare or a dog-sitter.
