The chocolate box village of Bourn with its impressive amount of amenities should fit the bill nicely, plus it&#8217;s just 8 miles from the city centre and has amazing transport links to the M11 and A14. </p>

<p>Release the waistband, Bourn maybe small but it&#8217;s mighty when it comes to eating out. <strong>Bamboo Sky</strong> (what used to be the <a href="https://thewillowtreebourn.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Willow Tree</a>)<a href="https://thewillowtreebourn.com">,</a> has now reopened as a fabulous Thai restaurant and botanical bar. Expect the same team and venue, complete with domes and teepee, but new decor, new chefs and an exciting new experience. For tea and cake (or breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea, for that matter) and a good old catch up with friends there&#8217;s also the charming <a href="https://thestovebourn.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stove Café</a> on Manor Farm at the Caxton End side of the village. There&#8217;s also a smart Bangladeshi and Indian Diner, <a href="https://www.lalbaghrestaurant.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lalbagh</a>, as well as Spikes Bar, The Lounge and the fine-dining Restaurant at the <a href="https://www.cambridgecountryclub.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cambridge Country Club</a>, just outside the village on Toft Road. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-shop">SHOP</h2>



<p>For serious shopping you&#8217;ll need to make trip into Cambridge, but you can embrace the good life in the village. <a href="https://thekitchenbakery.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Kitchen &amp; Bakery</a> on Manor Farm sells artisan bread and cakes, as well as grazing boxes and lunch and you can buy gorgeous nature-inspired homewares and gifts from <a href="https://www.hillsandhedgerows.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hills &amp; Hedgerow</a> at their brand new pop-up shop. Golfers can pick up their sporting goods from the <a href="https://www.cambridgecountryclub.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cambridge Country Club</a> or, if wellness is more your bag there&#8217;s an Elemis shop too. There&#8217;s also a village shop for emergency provisions.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>

<p><a href="https://www.cambridgecountryclub.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Cambridge Country Club</a> has an 18-hole golf course, state-of-the-art wellness and spa facilities and a restaurant, so it&#8217;s well worth becoming a member. If that&#8217;s all a bit too mainstream for you, you can get your wellness kicks at the more laid-back <a href="https://www.paus.life" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Paus</a>, a stunning outdoor bathing space with open-air, red cedar hot tubs, authentic Finnish barrel saunas, wellbeing workshops and creative classes. When you&#8217;ve finished bobbing around in the bubbles there&#8217;s a Hilltop Bistro to refuel in, too. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY </h2>



<p>If you want to make friends when your move here join one of the 15 or so clubs or associations that take place each week. There&#8217;s all the usuals like Scouts and Gardening Club and some more unusual options like Climate Change Action Group and a Bee Club. For fitness fans there&#8217;s a <a href="https://bourntorun.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bourn to Run</a> annual cross-country event to raise funds for Bourn Primary Academy and Bourn Sports Club and of course, an annual village fete.</p>

<p>The National Trust&#8217;s <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/cambridgeshire/wimpole-estate" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wimpole Hall &amp; Home Farm Estate</a> is a short drive away and has 3,000 acres of parkland and farmland to explore as well as a wow-factor historic house and lovely farm for kids. You&#8217;re also near to <a href="https://sheprethwildlifepark.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Shepreth Wildlife Park</a>, a rustic zoo with soft play, outdoor play area and loads of animal attractions including tigers! </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE </h2>

<p><a href="http://www.wysingartscentre.org/#" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wysing Arts Centre</a>, a contemporary arts residency centre and campus for artistic production, is just on the edge of the village. It&#8217;s mostly used for education but there are often events and exhibitions held as well as an annual festival. There&#8217;s also <a href="https://www.bournpottery.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bourn Pottery</a> where you can take part in courses, lessons, taster sessions and clay-based fun. <a href="https://waresleyparkestate.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Waresley Park Estate</a> is also a short drive away and it has a stunning new outdoor amphitheatre where al fresco performances take place over the summer. </p>

<p>Properties in Bourn sold for any average of £507,167 last year. Detached properties cost an average of £741,143, while semis were £343,714 and terraced homes £383,750.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-nurseries">NURSERIES</h2>



<p>There&#8217;s one Ofsted rated Good nursery in the village itself – <a href="http://www.littlehands.co.uk/bourn.htm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Little Hands</a>, open from 8am – 5:30pm. Other nearby options include <a href="https://kindrednurseries.co.uk/our-nurseries/cambourne-day-nursery-and-pre-school" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kindred Cambourne Day Nursery</a> and <a href="https://foxesbridgefarmdaynursery.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Foxes Bridge Farm Day Nursery</a> on the way into Cambridge, near Barton.  </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p>The village has its own &#8216;Good&#8217; primary school <a href="https://www.bournschool.co.uk/Ofsted-School-Performance/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bourn C of E Primary Academy</a>. For independent schools it&#8217;s a short 15 min drive to the likes of <a href="https://www.theleys.net" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Leys</a>, <a href="https://www.perse.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Perse</a>, <a href="https://www.stmaryscambridge.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Mary&#8217;s</a> and <a href="https://www.sjcs.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St John&#8217;s College School</a>. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Bourn has its own windmill that is believed to be the oldest surviving mill in the UK and is a designated Ancient Monument. There are often open days where you can try and move the entire mill around its central post. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Bourn is really well placed for commuters to Cambridge, Huntingdon, or Peterborough. You could even cycle easily from the village to the city. It&#8217;s also an easy drive to Royston with its fast 37 min trains into London&#8217;s Kings Cross as well as The Shelfords where you can pick up the Cambridge to Liverpool Street Line (1 hr 23 mins).  </p>
