New restaurant alert! <a href="https://larkrestaurant.co.uk">Lark</a> is a brand new foodie destination from well-known Suffolk chef James Carn that opened in the town on 11 February 2023 in, wait for it&#8230; a former bus shelter. James previously worked at top Suffolk restaurant Tuddenham Mill as well as our only Michelin-starred restaurant Pea Porridge. The name of the restaurant comes from the nearby River Lark and the menu concept is all sharing style &#8211; lots of small plates using the finest local ingredients. The current menu includes razor clams with Café de Paris butter, Earl Stonham Wagyu carpaccio, and Breckland venison tartare. With only 23 covers it&#8217;s an intimate experience and if you want to get a table you&#8217;d better be ready to sharpen your elbows. 



Sadly it&#8217;s a case of one in, one out as popular Mediterranean restaurant, CASA on Bury&#8217;s Risbygate Street closes its doors after many years this week.

The Fellows House Cambridge&#8217;s new Executive Head Chef Kiran Selvarajan has launched a new plant-based menu this month in <a href="https://thefellowshouse.com/eat-drink/">The Folio Bar &amp; Kitchen</a>. All dishes will blend home-cooked traditional British cooking with a contemporary twist and you can order dishes such as Seared Tofu Steak, Chermoula Squash and Plant Wellington. You can wash these culinary creations down with a brand new cocktail from the inventive new list too.

Over at Kentford&#8217;s Phoenix Cycleworks, near Newmarket there&#8217;s a brand new café called <a href="https://www.phoenixcycleworks.co.uk/breadline-cafe-kentford">Breadline</a>. It&#8217;s another new business from a former Tuddenham Mill chef, Stuart Drake, alongside co-founder Tom James. The new café promises &#8220;seriously sexy sandwiches&#8221; including the already popular New Yorker as well as amazing cakes, sausage rolls and Brazilian coffee.



Lots of chocolate news in the counties this month including a new chocolatier from Mildenhall with a brilliant name &#8211; <a href="https://www.instagram.com/wuffingschocolates/">Wuffings</a>! It&#8217;s a launch from local husband and wife Kate and John Stannard and the name comes from a former dynasty of kings in Suffolk. You can only get your hands on the delectable delights in local hotels like The Angel, Bury and Salthouse Harbour, Ipswich but they&#8217;ll be selling online soon.

Over in Cambridge you can get your chocolate fix at newly opened <a href="https://www.cafeauchocolat.co.uk">Cafe au Chocolat</a> on Green Street just across the way from Knoops another fairly new chocolate based opening in the city. It&#8217;s a sister business to an already established café in Stamford and serves French-inspired delights such as patisserie goods, crepes, and chocolates made by French chocolatiers.

Then head to new Cambs micro-bakery <a href="https://www.chinchinbakery.co.uk">Chin Chin Bakery</a> on Market Hill for signature donuts, Guinness cake, burnt Basque cheesecake, brownies and the like, all expertly baked by Peichin Lee, who recently moved out of London to Cambridge. You can have these delicious delights delivered if you live near to the city and Lee is also able to cater for private events.

Before our teeth fall out let&#8217;s move on to the savoury stuff, starting with a new vegan Indian street food takeaway restaurant in Ely called <a href="https://gujjubites.co.uk">Gujju Bites</a> on Hereward Street. Founder Meera Shah has put together the perfect menu of Indian street snacks including a Bombay Masala Sandwich, Vada Pad, and Pav Bhaji. 



If it&#8217;s Caribbean food you crave then you can get your fill of jerk sauce flavoured food at new Cambridge eaterie <a href="https://orleneskitchenonline.co.uk">Orlene&#8217;s Kitchen</a>, housed on the ground floor of the Guildhall. It&#8217;s a business from mother-and-son team formerly based in Milton and at The Pharmacie Cafe in Waterbeach, and will be open during the daytime before extending into evening pop-up events. Expect Jamaican-inspired toasties, cakes, salads and curries.

Finally, Suffolk Food Hall has just unveiled it&#8217;s new restaurant, simply called <a href="https://suffolkfoodhall.co.uk/restaurant/">The Restaurant</a> that replaces the old Cook House Restaurant. It has a new look, but with the same gorgeous river views, and a new menu including light bites which is well worth checking out.
