Cambridge’s amazing&nbsp;<a href="https://www.camcityevents.co.uk/what-we-do/ooto">Out of the Ordinary Festival</a>&nbsp;is making a return for the third year running over the August Bank holiday weekend (23 – 24 August). If you didn’t make it to 2024’s inaugural festival make sure you don’t miss this year when festival performance artists bring fantastical worlds of colour, imagination and humour to Cambridge’s historic streets, entertaining and amazing everyone as they go.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-week-one-4-10">WEEK ONE: 4-10</h2>

Newmarket Racecourses’ <a href="https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket/events-tickets/newmarket-nights/">Newmarket Nights</a> comes to an amazing finale this month with Faithless taking to the stage on&nbsp;8 Aug, Ball and Boe on 15 Aug and Sugababes on 23 August. 



Breathe in, stretch out&#8230; and bring the whole gang. Head to <a href="https://willowgrangefarm.co.uk/event/family-fun-yoga">Willow Grange</a> on Friday 8 August for a joyful family yoga session designed for all ages and abilities. From tiny tots to grandparents, enjoy gentle poses, playful partner stretches and grounding moments – all under the summer sky. Calm connection (and a few giggles) guaranteed.



<a href="https://brittenpearsarts.org/whats-on">Summer at Snape</a> continues throughout August with an amazing array of different styles of live music concerts and events to attend.



Summer holidays making a massive dent in your bank balance? Head along to one of Cambridge’s pretty parks this summer and enjoy a concert for free. <a href="https://www.camcityevents.co.uk/what-we-do/music-in-the-parks" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Music in the Parks</a> is an annual free series in the city with food and drink vendors on site all you need to do is grab your picnic blankets and get ready to dance the afternoon away with your kids.



Meanwhile the stunning surroundings of <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/cambridgeshire/wimpole-estate/events/57ed7607-d82c-42c9-ad8e-672b52a7910a">Wimpole Estate</a> is an outdoor theatre lovers&#8217; dream this August with their Sunset Series including The Wind in the Willows on 8 August, The Merry Wives of Windsor on 23 August and A Midsummer Night&#8217;s Dream on 23 August.



Get ready to fall head over heels… <a href="https://theatreroyal.org/events/steve-steff-for-ever/">Steve and Steff For Ever</a> is an immersive, open-air theatre experience winding through the streets of Bury St Edmunds this summer (6–30 August). This promenade performance blends love, laughter and a little magic, leaving you swooning, starry-eyed and wondering if anything’s possible after all…

Suffolk Coast&#8217;s open air <a href="https://www.thoringtontheatre.co.uk">Thorington Theatre</a> is showing loads of amazing al fresco drama and comedy this month. <a href="https://www.thoringtontheatre.co.uk">Check out the schedule for the end of August here.</a>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-week-two-11-17">WEEK TWO: 11-17</h2>



<a href="https://folkeast.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">FolkEast</a>, a family festival of folk music at Suffolk’s Sotterley Estate takes place this month from&nbsp;15 – 17 August.&nbsp;The festival has a stellar line-up of folk music, dance, games, workshops, art, storytelling, and food and drink. You can camp on site in a pre-booked bell tent or your own tent for £25 per day, while day tickets start at £80.

Big fan of the bard? Then <a href="https://cambridgeshakespeare.com/programme/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Cambridge Shakespeare Festival</a> will be right up your street. Shakespeare’s most well-loved plays are being shown across Cambridge over the summer until 30 August. Many of the performances take place in the idyllic settings of the college gardens so you can sit back and enjoy a picnic while you watch. This August you can see As You Like It, Macbeth in King&#8217;s College Gardens and The Comedy Of Errors.



There’s something to delight all outdoor theatre enthusiasts in West Suffolk this year.&nbsp;Frankenstein&nbsp;starts the <a href="https://www.whatsonwestsuffolk.co.uk/festivals/theatre-in-the-parks.cfm">Theatre in the Parks</a> run at the Abbey Gardens on 12 August followed by&nbsp;The Wizard of Oz&nbsp;on&nbsp;13 August.

Take a trip to the stunning Helmingham Hall this month for&nbsp;<a href="https://www.helmingham.com/events/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Music in the Gardens&nbsp;</a>with The High Points, a 4 piece multi-genre from Norwich specialising in funk and soul, on&nbsp;17 August. 



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-week-three-18-24">WEEK THREE: 18-24</h2>



Outdoor theatre and cinema event, Summer Nights, continues this month at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough. Summer Nights runs until 23 August&nbsp;and includes a whole host a brilliant films (<a href="https://www.nenepark.org.uk/summer-nights">see the line up here</a>). The littles will love&nbsp;Moana&nbsp;on&nbsp;23 August&nbsp;at 4.30pm and the adults can enjoy&nbsp;Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy&nbsp;at 7.30pm.



Lights, camera, East Anglia! Indie gem Abbeygate Cinema launches its <a href="https://visit-burystedmunds.co.uk/events/made-in-east-anglia-film-festival">Made in East Anglia Film Festival</a> on 22 August, running through to 10 September. This cinematic celebration puts our region in the spotlight, showcasing films made in, inspired by, or steeped in the character of East Anglia. Expect big-screen hits like The Dig (complete with a live talk from Suffolk dialect coach Charlie Haylock) and Yesterday, filmed partly in Lowestoft – all proving that East Anglia really is ready for its close-up.

Fear not, Sundowner Sessions run right through until late September.

You’ll want to ease up on the carbs before <a href="https://visit-burystedmunds.co.uk/events/bury-st-edmunds-food-and-drink-festival-2025" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bury St Edmunds&#8217; Food &amp; Drink festival</a>, a FREE two-day gastro extravaganza from 24 &#8211; 25 Aug to ensure you have enough room to sample all the food and drink on offer. There’s lots to see and eat, with more than 100 stalls, a farmer’s market and demos from celeb chefs in the Cookery Theatre. It&#8217;s really family-friendly day out too, with attractions including fairground rides, big games, face painting and street entertainment across both days.



We can’t think of many nicer ways to spend a summer’s afternoon than in the alfresco amphitheatre at <a href="https://waresleyparkestate.co.uk/whats-on-at-waresley/wind-in-the-willows-2">Waresley Park Estate</a> watching some top notch outdoor theatre. This month, on&nbsp;31 August,&nbsp;there’s an adaptation of Wind in the Willows by Illyria Theatre Company. Refreshments, including an open bar and open grill are available.

Fancy a feast by the water this August? Head to <a href="https://www.brittenpearsarts.org/visit-us/snape-maltings/food-and-drink/malted-mussel">The Malted Mussel</a>, a breezy summer pop-up perched on the edge of the River Alde, where the menu is as fresh as the sea air. Think salt and pepper squid with skin-on fries, dressed Cromer crab, lobster slathered in garlic butter, and (of course) steaming bowls of mussels swimming in a sparkling wine cream sauce, ready to be mopped up with hunks of sourdough. Kids are catered for too, with fish goujons and fries to keep little tummies happy. Open Wednesday to Sunday until 31 August – it’s summer on a plate.



<a href="https://www.woodbridgefestival.com/">Woodbridge Festival of Art and Music</a> is back this August, bringing its signature blend of creativity, community and cool to this picturesque riverside town. Expect an eclectic line-up of live music, local art, artisan food and drink, and a laid-back vibe that’s as effortlessly refreshing as an Aperol Spritz at golden hour. One for the diary!
