Muddy says: If you’re holidaying in Suffolk (and why wouldn’t you?) don’t look any further than this amazing holiday cottage company. From cute country cottages and sea-view lodges to chic, high end apartments and fabulous party houses they have something for every type of getaway.
Suffolk Secrets is a well-named company – they have over 700 holiday properties county-wide in many amazing secret little places that you just wouldn’t come across any other way – and we love discovering the unknown in our beautiful county here at Muddy! It’s a family-run business too, so you know that they’ll personally make sure your holiday is perfect, whatever your criteria. Got a four-legged friend in tow? They’ve got beautiful, luxe options for all of you including Fido to holiday together. Celebrating something with lots of friends. There’ll be a party house with your name on it. Want somewhere romantic and secluded for just-the-two-of-you. They’ll know the loveliest little love nest.
Suffolk Secrets has offices in the middle of Southwold and Aldeburgh – so they have a wealth of local knowledge and just like Muddy you know their recommendations of places to visit, eat and see are always going to be on point. Plus, their location means they’ve got loads of seaview properties to choose from too.
What we love most about them is the sheer range of properties there is to choose from (be warned once you start looking you’ll want to stay in each and every one of their charming holidays houses). There’s everything from beach huts on Southwold beach (just imagine sitting in one and pretending you own such an exclusive piece of real estate!) and holiday lets with their own private swimming pool to a penthouse overlooking the River Deben and huge period feature filled party houses in prime Suffolk locations.
We’ve pulled together a few examples of our favourites to tempt you. Want to see more? Head to their website and be prepared to be wowed…
Relax and Unwind… Dragonfly, Rumburgh
Sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms, 1 pet allowed
One of the most popular search criterias is holiday homes with hot tubs. I mean, what could be better than quaffing champers in a hot tub on holiday? And Suffolk Secrets has plenty of cottages with hot tubs to meet your bubble-filled needs. We love Dragonfly at Rumburgh, a beautifully converted barn in a cute village just inland from Southwold and near Halesworth.
It’s one of those light-filled and gorgeously decorated homes, with beams and charming pitched ceilings that you wish your house looked like, but somehow never does. The outside space is just as impressive. There’s a pretty private garden with a pond and outdoor seating area (hello al fresco dinners), a trampoline (hello drunken bouncing) and a sheltered open barn with the hot tub inside (hello to hot tub-ing even when it’s raining).
Price from £476 per week.
See the Sea… The Perch Southwold
Sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms, no pets allowed
What is it about the sea that just makes everything so much better? We’re very lucky to have a stunning coastline in Suffolk and Suffolk Secrets has some of the most charming cottages to rent with sea views, and that means they’re just steps from the beach too. Holiday homes don’t get much better than The Perch in Southwold. We’ve walked past this one a million times and always wished it was ours, never realising that it actually could be for a week! It’s near our favourite end of Southwold beach (Gun Hill with its sand dunes and white sand beach walk down towards Walberswick) and is in a pretty much perfect position for being secluded, yet a very quick walk into the town centre to all those gorgeous independent shops.
Inside and outside is a complete masterpiece – it has featured on Channel 4’s Homes by the Sea and has won an award for building excellence. It’s full of light, open plan with a stunning wish-it-was-yours kitchen and our favourite bit – a balcony with views across the sea and beach, which is just calling for you to sit and work your way through a crisp bottle (ahem glass) of wine.

Romantic Escapes… Interludes, Aldeburgh
Sleeps 2, 1 pet allowed
There’s something so undeniably romantic about shacking up just-the-two-of-you in a cute little cottage and closing the door on the rest of the world. You can do that to perfection with Suffolk Secrets’ cottages for two in all sorts of heavenly locations across the county, including this stunner… Interludes in Aldeburgh. This cosmopolitan option is in a quiet part of town, but a quick walk to the shops and beach. Forget classic seaside charm and beachy decor, this is a coastal holiday let with a difference. Once inside you feel like you’re in a chic city loft apartment with exposed brick walls, dark wood floors and modern art touches. You’ll come home wanting to completely redo your own interiors!
Price from £441 per week
Bringing the Pooch?… Spring House Studio, Alderton
Sleeps 2, 1 pet allowed
If your baby is of the furry variety and you can’t bear to holiday without man’s best friend, then the fact that Suffolk Secrets has over 400 properties that are dog-friendly will be music to your ears. And, we’re talking gorgeous options, so you don’t have to slum it just because you’ve got a pet in tow. We think Fido would be rather taken with Spring House Studio in Alderton, near Woodbridge and all the charming walks along the Suffolk Coast. You can even access the beach by a delightful 15 minute walk.
It’s a contemporary and cool outhouse conversion, with wooden floors (no worries about muddy paws then), all on one floor (no doggies sneaking upstairs either) and a lovely log burner for your pooch to curl up beside after an active day by the sea. There’s also a private courtyard terrace, which is essential when travelling with a pet and also for those sunny days when you want to soak up the rays in perfect solitude.

Big get-togethers… Guild House, Aldeburgh
Sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms, 1 pet allowed

Suffolk Secrets has the most incredible party houses (just flicking through the pictures will make you want to open a bottle of champers and call your girl friends for a knees-up straightaway).
Guild House has group getaway written all over it. It’s right on the seafront for one thing and has all sorts of fun perfect-for-group extras, like a hot tub, steam room, gym and cinema room!
