Sprotts Farm, Suffolk

Three charming family and dog-friendly self-catering cottages with an outdoor pool and games room in a picture-perfect part of Suffolk, plus a brand new events barn that’s perfect for weddings and celebrations.

Picture the idyllic scenes from John Constable’s most famous paintings and then add in some cute cottages, a heated outdoor swimming pool and all the mod cons and little luxuries you could desire on holiday. That’s exactly what’s on offer at Sprotts Farm, a sublime self-catering getaway, on the northern tip of Constable Country near Polstead, one of the prettiest villages in Suffolk.

The three cottages at Sprotts Farm – The Stables, The Granary and The Brambles – were lovingly renovated back in 2019 to provide a place to escape to the country for the whole family, including any VIPs (we’re talking about very important pooches, of course!). And, with a country park, the River Box and the Dedham Vale AONB right on the doorstep, this is peak dog walking and wholesome outdoors family fun territory.

The Stables and The Granary both sleep four, while The Brambles is large enough for five. And, if you’re looking for somewhere for a large family or friends get-together, you can book them all together for up to 13 guests. With a communal outdoor dining courtyard, complete with Jamaican style oil drum BBQ, games room with pool table, ping pong and table football, a fire pit and a heated outdoor pool, a getaway here has something for everyone and you’ll certainly never get bored. The cricket-loving owners have even installed a private hire, professional standard indoor cricket lane that guests can book at a discounted rate, plus you’ll want to pack a tennis racquet or two to enjoy a game at the private indoor tennis court just ten minutes away on the owner’s cousin’s farm!

If you can bear to drag yourself away from your delightful digs though, there’s also plenty to do and see in this pretty corner of Suffolk, including riverside walks, visits to the National Trust’s Flatford Mill and Willy Lott’s house where you can take a rowing boat out, Munnings Art Museum, several farm shops and kid-friendly farms, Dedham Vale Vineyard, and a nature reserve. There’s also a lovely pub in the village of Polstead, as well as a quaint village shop, and The Angel Inn at Stoke-by-Nayland for fancier fare.
