Not one for sitting still and reading a book on your holidays? Then High Lodge Leisure, a smart sporting, leisure and hospitality venue on the Suffolk coast could be right up your street. High Lodge was set up over 30 years ago by 14 times FITASC Sporting World, European and British Champion, John Bidwell, and is well known for its amazing shooting ground and top quality tuition. Alongside clay shooting, other brilliant outdoor activities include archery, air rifle and fishing, all enjoyed within the 120 acres of tranquil woodland and grounds.

The activities

Never wielded a shotgun, bow and arrow or fishing rod before? No problem – everyone from complete novices and children (over 10) to absolute pros are welcome at this safe sporting destination, where you can book in for lessons from leading names in the field. It’s also the perfect choice of location for group bookings for events such as hen and stag dos, corporate away days and family celebrations.

The lodges

When you’ve had your fill of countryside pursuits, there’s plenty more on offer at High Lodge Leisure to make it the ideal location for a weekend escape. You can choose to stay within the stunning grounds in one of the 19 luxury holiday lodges, complete with private hot tubs and a choice of a lake view lodge or one of the Claywood Lodges with countryside views. These self catering lodges are perfectly positioned to make the most of the activities at High Lodge, as well as off-site attractions, such as the nearby Suffolk coast beaches, the stunning seaside towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh and RSPB Minsmere for amazing wildlife.

The café and venue

If you can’t be bothered to cook after all that exercise, head to the inviting on-site café bar in the clubhouse. It’s open to everyone (whether you’re shooting or not) from 9 – 4:30pm (2pm on Sunday) and serves hearty breakfasts, lunches and homemade cakes.
