We like to think we know our stuff when it comes to gin. After all, with 20 plus years of G&T drinking under our belts, we’ve certainly put in the hard graft. When it comes to telling a top tier tipple from a mediocre measure we’re pretty confident connoisseurs and so, you can take it from us that Fenspirits, a small distillery near Wisbech, create really good and exceedingly glug-able gin. Alongside their classic London Dry Gin, a smooth gin packed with botanicals, they also create Navy Strength Gin (at 57% it’s not for the faint-hearted) as well as the heavenly sounding rose petal gin, cranberry gin, cherry gin, blood orange gin, raspberry gin and Aurora gin – a cool bright blue gin created by infusing London Dry Gin with flowers.

In fact, we were so taken with their gins that we included them in the goody bags at the recent Muddy Stilettos Awards Drinks 2022 and saw lots of delighted faces as winners extracted a bottle from the bottom of their bag.

Not a fan of mother’s ruin? Fenspirits also produce delectable and unique rums and vodkas. We certainly wouldn’t say no to their sweet rums – caramel, coffee, rum and raisin and spiced rum – or turn our nose up at their vodkas, which include the moreish chocolate vodka liqueur, salted caramel vodka and toffee vodka as well as more fruity options such as cranberry, triple cherry and mint and lime flavours.

The secret behind these superior spirits? Everything is done by hand and with a good dash of local passion. The team ferment and distil everything from scratch, fermenting sugar from sugar beet and distilling it into 96% spirit (vodka) before then re-distilling into gin. They also ferment sugar cane molasses on site, which is then distilled into rum. Every bottle is then filled, corked, wax sealed, and labelled by hand. It’s a true labour of love.
