You’ll find the <a href="https://universityarms.com/treatment-rooms/">Aromatherapy Associates spa treatment rooms</a> tucked inside a quiet corner of Cambridge&#8217;s stunning University Arms hotel that overlooks Parker&#8217;s Piece and has a prime position on Regent Street. The rooms are so bijou and discreet that a member of staff guides you there from reception and lets you in with a key, before you knock on another door and are let into a dark and calming relaxation room by your therapist. Like the rest of the five-star hotel, everything is luxurious and designed for decadence. The only thing that could make you feel slightly stressed here is the lack of parking. Queen Anne car park is just on the other side of Parker&#8217;s Piece though and doesn&#8217;t require you to remortgage your home like parking at the Grand Arcade does.

The treatment rooms only opened in March 2022, but are a very welcome addition to this luxurious hotel. You can tell that they&#8217;ve turned a few ground floor bedrooms into the treatment space, and the upshot of this is that the bathrooms adjoining each treatment space are vast and sumptuous and the sound-proofing is second to none. Although the rooms are in the city centre by a busy bus route along Park Terrace, you can&#8217;t hear a thing when you&#8217;re in your treatment or relaxing in the lounge space. A private corridor separates the rooms from the main hotel too, so there&#8217;s no noise from passing guests either. 



The styling of the space is completely in keeping with the rest of the hotel, all the work of Martin Brudnizki, and the low lighting, velvet chaise longues, thick curtains and calming colour scheme make it the sort of place you won&#8217;t want to leave after just an hour or so.

This is what it&#8217;s all about &#8211; the treatments. The hotel has partnered with leading British brand Aromatherapy Associates to offer an extensive treatment menu of 30 &#8211; 90 minute massages, facials, and wellbeing experiences that are the perfect addition to a busy city break. All the treatments use the purest products full of powerful essential oils and are designed to not only enhance your physical wellbeing, but emotional and mental wellbeing too. 



I chose a 60-minute Ultimate Aromatherapy Experience (£95) &#8211; it’s the hero treatment that focusses on both your physical and emotional needs and involves a massage from top to toe. It promises to &#8220;dissolve away all your stress and tension&#8221;, which with two very young kids is what I was in desperate need of! 



The treatment started with a consultation about areas of the body I needed the therapist to focus on (my very tight shoulders). Then it was time to relax on the blissful heated massage bed and let my therapist work her magic. It normally takes me quite a long time to switch off when I&#8217;m having a treatment, but the combination of delicious-smelling oils, a warm, comfy bed and my therapist&#8217;s expert hands meant I was in that heavenly state somewhere between wake and sleep within minutes. 



As I was heading off to do the school run later that day I opted not to have oils used in my head massage, and with no pool to dive into after your treatment I&#8217;d recommend this, unless you want to walk round Cambridge looking like you haven&#8217;t washed your hair for a year.



An hour later I definitely felt like a new woman. I peeled myself off the bed and took a few paces into the relaxation room, where I spent the next half an hour coming round with free tea, orange juice and biscuits in the relaxation room.

To continue the luxury experience I snuggled up by the fire in the hotel&#8217;s library for the next hour and enjoyed a light lunch rather than head out into the city straightaway. When I book my next treatment I&#8217;ll definitely be opting for the afternoon tea spa experience so I can make the most of the time in this hotel and to keep the feeling of tranquillity going for as long as possible.

GOOD FOR:&nbsp;Those looking for an urban oasis in the middle of busy Cambridge. High-end bespoke Aromatherapy Associates treatments using the finest oils delivered by expert therapists are the main focus here, so spa treatment connoisseurs will be in their element. With only two treatment rooms, it&#8217;s an exclusive experience meaning you&#8217;re really well taken care of and the offering works particularly well if you&#8217;re time poor, but still want to prioritise your wellbeing. 



NOT FOR: Those looking for a full spa day experience with a pool and sauna etc. The treatment rooms at the University Arms are small and discreet and ideal for a massage or facial for hotel guests and locals, who only have an hour or so to spare.
