<p>He’s spun tunes for thousands, stood behind the decks at some of the UK’s biggest venues, and lived a thousand lives in clubland. Now, legendary DJ <strong>Brandon Block</strong> is limbering up (post-shoulder op) and heading to <strong>Newmarket Racecourse</strong> for an epic night of music, memories, and Ministry of Sound magic.</p>



<p>Brandon’s been a fixture of the UK dance music scene since the early ’90s – if you know, you know. As Ministry of Sound member No. 3 (yes, seriously), he helped define the golden era of club culture. From tearing up the terrace at Space Ibiza – where he helped cement the island’s status as the global hub of electronic music – to making waves at iconic nights like Flying, Fubar, and Up Yer Ronson, his influence is undeniable. With residencies at Gatecrasher, God’s Kitchen, and Ministry of Sound, plus BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix appearances and trailblazing sets in Dubai and beyond, Brandon’s legacy spans decades and continents. And now, he’s bringing that energy straight to Newmarket.</p>



<p>We caught up with him ahead of his Newmarket Nights set to chat fitness routines (<a href="https://muddystilettos.co.uk/lifestyle/wellbeing-lifestyle/pickleball-or-padel-difference/">paddle</a>, anyone?), post-op comebacks, music’s power to heal, and why now more than ever, checking in on your mates is just as important as cutting loose on the dancefloor. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-back-in-the-groove"><strong>Back in the groove</strong></h3>



<p>&#8220;I’ve been getting back into things gently: playing paddle for the first time since my shoulder operation. It’s still twinging a bit, but I’ll be smashing rackets again soon enough. I’ve also been hitting the gym and prepping my sets. Newmarket <a href="https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket/events-tickets/newmarket-nights/ministry-of-sound/">this Friday</a> is going to be special.&#8221;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-classical-comeback"><strong>Classical comeback</strong></h3>

<p>Brandon’s no stranger to the <strong>Ministry of Sound Classical</strong> shows, having played some of the early dates with Coalition. &#8220;They were such an experience: huge crowds, amazing energy. Then COVID hit, and things paused. So to be back on the tour again? It&#8217;s an absolute honour.&#8221;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-newmarket-love"><strong>Newmarket love</strong></h3>

<p>Brandon&#8217;s got history here. &#8220;I’ve got good mates in Newmarket: one of them used to be a horse trainer, so I’ve sorted a few on the guest list! I even played the old White House club back in the day. Cambridge has a massive music scene with loads of musical integrity. <a href="https://www.junction.co.uk/">The Junction’s</a> a great venue.&#8221;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-power-of-the-playlist"><strong>The power of the playlist</strong></h3>



<p>Music, for Brandon, is more than a job, it’s a lifeline. &#8220;It’s the language of everything, not just love. Music maps your life. It’s background, but it stays with you. It triggers memories, good and bad. That’s why people create their own playlists – they’re emotional time capsules.&#8221;</p>



<p>Brandon has been currently spinning a few classics: &#8220;I’ve been playing Sandy B’s <em>Make the World Go Round </em>– it had a moment years ago, but sometimes you just need to let a record breathe before bringing it back. Same with Alison Limerick – timeless.&#8221;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-happiness-amp-hip-replacements"><strong>Health, happiness &amp; hip replacements</strong></h3>



<p>Brandon’s been sober for nearly 30 years and is the first to say the party doesn’t have to mean self-destruction. &#8220;I’m middle-aged now: I’ve had a hip replacement and a shoulder op, so I’ve got to look after myself. But the balance is key. I’m heading to Ibiza after Newmarket, but I know when to take downtime. It’s not all glamour.&#8221;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-on-checking-in"><strong>On checking in</strong></h3>



<p>Brandon is keen for people to come out and enjoy themselves at his set at Newmarket, but there&#8217;s one thing that&#8217;s key for him. &#8220;One of the most important things I say to people now is this: if you’re struggling, please ask for help. And if you notice someone else who isn’t quite themselves, ask them if they’re all right. Ask twice. Let&#8217;s look after our fellow humans.&#8221;</p>
