Best Sunday roast takeaways in Suffolk & Cambs
Can't be faffed to juggle seven pots at once? Chillax, just order in. Try one of these takeaway Suffolk and Cambs Sunday roasts for a crackingly easy end to the week.
I love a big ol’ roast dinner as much as the next woman but, my goodness, aren’t they a faff to make? Hours of peeling, basting and washing up of roasting tins… and then it’s scoffed in 10 minutes flat. So in an attempt to take things easier in lockdown, I’m ordering Sunday roast takeaways from these brilliant foodie businesses. Yorkshire puds ahoy!
Provenance Brix & Mortar, Whittlesford
We’re big fans of Provenance Brix & Mortar here (read our brunch review here and be prepared to salivate!) and their roast dinners are just as delicious. Thankfully they’re still available to takeaway until Boris decides we can go back to this super cool restaurant (where social distancing will be easy peasy). The 2-course lunch has to be collected between 12 and 2pm and don’t worry about them getting cold, it’s meant to be finished off at home. Choose between roasted Hereford beef, 1/2 Norfolk spring chicken, winter veggie tart or roasted leg of Somersham pork.
Sweet Things Savoury, Wisbech
Sweet Things Savoury deliver all sorts of tasty treats around the local area and on a Sunday you can go down the savoury route by ordering one of their scrumptious Sunday roasts. This is your classic roast – meat and all the trimmings, no messing around. Delivery to PE13 and PE14 areas. And it would be rude not to try some of their sweet goodies too – we rather like the look of their chocolate caramel tart for afters. £9.50 per meal.
Cambridge Chop House, Cambridge
The views might not be quite as good as King’s College from your own house, but the grub will still be up to Cambridge Chop House level thanks to their Sunday lunch meal kits, which can be delivered in Cambridge, St. Ives, Saffron Walden, Newmarket, Ely, Haverhill and Royston. The kit includes their much-loved duck parcel, roast sirloin of beef, with all the trimmings and sticky toffee pudding. Bung in the oven and then eat like a king! £49 for two.
The Three Hills, Bartlow
This gastropub in South Cambs has pivoted really well to the challenges of lockdown and have a successful takeaway menu running on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There’s the classic Sunday roast, vegan and kids’ roast to choose from as well as fish and chips for anyone who doesn’t like roasts (if there’s such a person).
The Fox & Hounds, Barley
This lovely pub is right on the Herts/ Essex/ Cambs border and is a little gem (it also happens to be my local so I can vouch for their Sunday roasts seeing as I’ve inhaled around 50 of them!). They do finish at home Sunday roasts and they are DELICIOUS! You just shove the food in the over for ten minutes (they all come with really clear instructions) and voila – a perfectly cooked roast. You can choose between beef, chicken and veggie most weeks although they do change it up. And the desserts are an absolute must.
The Unruly Pig, Bromeswell
It’s no secret that we love The Unruly Pig here at Muddy (read our recent interview with head chef Dave Wall here). This foodie favourite has been doing takeaways on a Friday and Saturday providing heat at home hampers, but they will be doing Sunday roast takeaways on Mothering Sunday (that’s 14 March FYI). The meals are available Friday to Sunday that weekend. You can choose from fillet of beef wellington and wild garlic stuffed suckling pig porchetta all served with dripping roasties, cauliflower cheese, honey roasted carrots, spring greens, and gravy. Excuse me while I show my three year old how to order online for mummy…!
The Bildeston Crown, Bildeston
Everyone knows the name The Bildeston Crown – it’s synonymous with the very best gastro pub grub in the county. If you’ve been dying to eat some of their delicious fare this winter, you’ll be tickled pink to hear that they are doing Sunday roast takeaways. The menu changes each week but here’s an example to get your mouth watering: Tomato & Basil Soup with Rosemary Focaccia, Roast Suffolk Beef with Braised Shin & Traditional Garnish, and Churros with Chocolate Custard. Three courses £28.
The One Bull, Bury St Edmunds
It couldn’t be easier to get your hands on The One Bull’s delicious roast dinner. Just order and collect and the whole meal comes on a platter so you can put it straight on the table and dig in. Then simply return the platter and get your £10 deposit back. The menu changes each week, but you can expect delights like roast sirloin of suffolk beef (served pink), roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables, gravy followed by chocolate croissant pudding. with orange whipped custard. £20 for 2 courses.
