<p>If you love Italian nosh as much as Muddy does, then hotfoot it to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/rusticoburystedmunds" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rustico</a>&nbsp;in Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds. The brainchild of Michele Pagliuca and chef Silene Ziglioli, it lies in a handsome Grade II-listed, timber-framed property that dates back to the 1700s in the heart of town. There are two floors, a snazzy cocktail list and authentic, regional cuisine – the handmade pizza will give you a real taste of Italy with fabulous toppings like prosciutto &amp; funghi and burrata &amp; nduja.  </p>

<p>Nestled right by the River Deben and overlooking the historic Tide Mill, The Woodyard is a sleek, industrial‑chic slice of seaside charm with daily‑baked dough, biscotti–stone‑fired Neapolitan pizzas and cocktails shaken by a real mix‑ology maestro. Expect adventurous toppings like provola‑smoked cheese, rosemary potatoes, pancetta and hot honey (the Smokey Joe is one for the food‑gram) plus light, airy crusts just begging for a dip in the gorgonzola. Plus, there&#8217;s Harris &amp; James gelato if you&#8217;ve got any room after – bellissimo! </p>

Well, the next best thing is to take a trip down Cambridge&#8217;s Bene&#8217;t Street, Fitzroy Street or Pea&#8217;s Hill and head to one of the <a href="https://www.aromi.co.uk/#secret-sicilian-sourdough-pizza">Aromi</a> branches, which serve classic Sicilian sourdough pizzas or fantastic focaccia slices made using a specific 48 hour fermentation process. Enjoy with a side of Sicilian antipasti, then wash it down with artisan gelato.  </p>

<p>If you’re the sort who judges a place by its crust, then get yourself over to Giovanni’s pronto. Tucked away on Burleigh Street, this little gem is dishing out properly authentic Neapolitan pizza with all the finesse of a Naples backstreet and the soul of Sardinia. The owner, Giovanni, is a real-deal Italian chef who’s brought family recipes and wood-fired magic to Cambridge, and the locals are (rightly) obsessed.</p>

<p><a href="https://pizza-mondo.co.uk">Pizza Mondo</a> is a contemporary cool pizza van that does the rounds of Cambs as well as attending weddings and events. You can find their Neapolitan-style pizzas (the best type in our opinion) at markets, cafes, pubs and events. Keep an eye on their social media to track them down!   </p>

<p><a href="http://www.oakfired.co.uk">The Royal Oak</a> take their Neapolitan pizzas seriously. In 2018, they became only the third UK restaurant licensed to make True Neapolitan Pizzas and each year they are regulated by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN), Naples. So you&#8217;ll not find a more authentic product in East Anglia if you tried! &nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-suffolk-stonehouse-bungay">Suffolk Stonehouse, Bungay </h2>



<p>The team at <a href="https://www.suffolkstonehouse.co.uk">this restaurant</a> hand make their dough daily and then prove it in the Georgian cellar, so it&#8217;s a real labour of love that combines Italian cooking techniques with a Suffolk twist. There are lots of local ingredients and names on the menu and as well as eating in at the pretty restaurant with a secret garden and kids play area, you can order for home delivery&#8230; <em>so</em> much nicer than a Domino&#8217;s. </p>

Lucca Enoteca in charming Manningtree might be just over the border in Essex, but we’d cross a few counties for a slice of what they’re serving. This is no ordinary pizza pit stop. It’s wood-fired wizardry meets Italian soul, where the Neapolitan-style bases are blistered to perfection and the toppings sing with fresh local produce and dreamy DOP-approved ingredients.</p>



<p>The menu is small but mighty: think crispy calzones (one bite and you&#8217;ll understand the hype), a show-stopping frutti di mare pizza shaped like an actual fish (yes, really), and punchy sides like courgette fries that could steal the show. No endless specials boards here — just tried-and-true favourites that fans travel across the country for. Seriously.</p>
