<p>Move to Histon or Impington and you get two villages for the price of one. These lovely villages, just four miles outside Cambridge city have grown in popularity and size over the years and now merge in the middle, so they come as a pair with a whole host of brilliant amenities to boot. Histon &amp; Impington marry countryside cottage charm and riverside walks with a buzzing close-to-city vibe, plus commuting into Cambridge is an absolute breeze. What&#8217;s not to love? </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-eat">EAT</h2>

<p>Feeling hungry? Good, because you could go out for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week here. There&#8217;s a brilliant café culture in Histon &amp; Impington starting with The Station House, which is an idyllic spot in the sun and serves really good brunches and lunch. Other favourites include the Histon branch of <a href="https://www.yourstir.co.uk/locations/histon/">Stir</a>, where you can enjoy speciality coffee, more amazing brunch dishes and take home lots of their famous baked goods. You can also get a cup and catch up over a lovely lunch at the Saint Andrew&#8217;s Centre Café and <a href="https://www.d-licious.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">D:licious</a>, a coffee and sandwich bar on Vision Park. </p>



<p>Our favourite pub in the village is <a href="https://boothiston.com">The Boot</a>, a cosy gastropub that&#8217;s dog-friendly, with gorgeous interiors, a stunning garden and seasonal menu. You can also pull up a bar still for a pint and pub grub at The Red Lion Hotel, The Barley Mow, and the King William VI. </p>



<p>On the takeaway and restaurants side of things there&#8217;s <a href="https://www.histongourmetkitchen.co.uk">Histon Gourmet Kitchen</a> (for pizzas, burgers, kebabs), History Village Fryer (for fish and chips), <a href="https://www.theindianocean.co.uk">The Indian Ocean</a>, a smart Indian takeaway and restaurant, and <a href="https://tawalounge.co.uk">Tawa Lounge</a>, a fairly recent opening serving first class South-East Asian cuisine in lovely surroundings. </p>

<p>There are plenty of places to stock up your cupboards in the villages themselves including an historic butchers, <a href="https://www.histonchopshop.com">The Histon Chop Shop</a>, and a bakery, <a href="https://www.barkers-bakery.co.uk/our-locations/histon/">Barkers Bakery</a>, which has been central to village life since the 1950s. Plus, on the third Saturday of every month there&#8217;s a Farmer&#8217;s Market and every Wednesday you can pick up fresh fish and seafood from the van outside the rather impressive Methodist Church. For more day-to-day basics there&#8217;s a Co-Op with Pharmacy, Tesco Express and a Mace convenience store too. </p>



<p>These villages offer more to shoppers than just food though – there&#8217;s the brilliant and Muddy Award-winning <a href="https://www.ginhouseflowers.co.uk">Gin House Flowers</a> opposite the duck pond, <a href="https://histonplants.com">Histon Plants</a> for really affordable perennial plants, <a href="https://lighthousetoys.co.uk">Lighthouse Toys</a> (formerly a bricks and mortar shop in Histon but now online) but which offers free delivery within the villages, and the <a href="http://www.topiarytree.co.uk">Topiary Tree Gift Shop</a> on The Green that&#8217;s full of tempting treats and inspired gift ideas. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p>Can&#8217;t see how lovely these villages are? There&#8217;s an opticians, <a href="https://spectacularopticians.co.uk/about/practices/histon/">Histon Opticians</a>, on School Hill and if you have any medical needs you&#8217;re well catered for with a large doctors, Firs House Surgery covering both villages as well as the Spire Cambridge Lea Private Hospital in Impington, a Bupa Health Centre, Histon Foot Care and Histon Dental Clinic. <p>For day-to-day fitness and wellbeing head to Impington Sports Centre where there&#8217;s a well-equipped gym and classes. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>Lots of families choose to live in Histon &amp; Impington because the community is so vibrant and welcoming. Throughout the the year there are lots of events to get involved in and meet your neighbours at such as the Histon Beer Festival, Histon Handmade Craft Fair, a Christmas Market, and the annual Feast Festival and Flower Show. As you can imagine in villages this large there are clubs for all interests and ages. </p>

<p>Craving more green space than the villages offer? Then you&#8217;ll love Milton Country Park in the next door village, acres of walks, cycle tracks and lakes for open water swimming, while it&#8217;s a short drive into the fens to visit Denny Abbey &amp; The Farmland Museum. History lovers should make a trip to The Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial in nearby Madingley. The villages are also a short drive from The National Trust&#8217;s Anglesey Abbey, a brilliant place for families to visit and that runs themed events throughout the year (the Christmas Lights are spectacular). </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Cambridge and all its cultural gems are right on the doorstep including historical colleges and buildings, theatres, art galleries and more museums than you can shake a guidebook at. If you want to tread the boards yourself though, <a href="https://www.starrtheatrecollective.com/about">Starr Theatre Collective</a> is an adult theatre workshops company based in Histon for really top end am dram. </p>

<p>Several excellent options within the villages including <a href="https://www.histon.cambs.sch.uk">Histon Early Years Centre</a> for kids aged 1 – 4 yrs, and the Ofsted Outstanding <a href="https://thewendyhouse.org.uk/impington/welcome">Wendyhouse</a> in Impington, a lovely setting for outdoorsy kids. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p>Histon &amp; Impington are really blessed when it comes to education with two Ofsted rated Outstanding&nbsp;primary schools, <a href="https://www.brookprimary.co.uk">Brook Primary</a> and <a href="https://www.parkprimary.co.uk">Park Primary</a>, both part of the Meridian Trust. Children don&#8217;t have to leave the village for secondary school, with the large and very well-regarded <a href="https://ivc.tela.org.uk">Impington Village College</a> (ranked as the top state school in East Anglia), where students can study for the IB. Looking for independent schools? <a href="https://suffolkcambs.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/st-marys-school-cambridge-2/">St Mary&#8217;s Cambridge</a> is a girls&#8217; school with an excellent reputation for STEM, top-performing <a href="https://www.perse.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Perse School</a> is nearby,  <a href="https://www.theleys.net" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Leys</a> offer stunning facilities and the <a href="https://www.sjcs.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St John&#8217;s College School</a> is a pastorally strong all-rounder option. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Local sculptor Tony Hillier left his iconic sculptures to the villages after his death and you can find them dotted about on a trail. Look out for Truffle the Pig in the Community Orchard, a huge camel by the B1049, a giant spider in one of the trees round The Green and many more.  </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>The only thing separating Histon &amp; Impington from Cambridge? The A14! You can easily cycle to Cambridge in 20 mins and the guided busway runs through the villages and can take you to the the city centre, the Science Park, Cambridge North Railway Station (direct trains to London and Ely), Addenbrooke&#8217;s Hospital, St Ives and Huntingdon. </p>
