<p>You won&#8217;t find many Cambridgeshire villages that are better located than Whittlesford. It&#8217;s just 15 minutes by car from Cambridge, it has its own station with fast trains into London, and it&#8217;s next to the M11. It&#8217;s no ugly commuterville either – Whittlesford has pretty thatched cottages, a huge and lovely village green, river walks along the River Cam and excellent amenities, including a destination pub. </p>

<p>For such a small village Whittlesford packs a culinary punch. <a href="https://thetickellarms.co.uk">The Tickell Arms</a>, part of the Cambs Cuisine collection, is a delightful gastropub with a magical fairylit garden, elegant interiors and consistently amazing food. There&#8217;s also <a href="https://www.redlionwhittlesfordbridge.com/about-us.html">The Red Lion Pub and Hotel</a> opposite the station for traditional pub grub – it has plenty of bedrooms to house visiting guests too. Then on the outskirts of the village, near the M11, is the heavenly and seriously cool <a href="https://www.provenancekitchen.com">Provenance Kitchen</a> – loved by locals for its next-level Sunday roasts and a real surprise for a small village like this and winner of Best Restaurant in the Muddy Stilettos Awards 2024. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-shop">SHOP</h2>



<p>Whittlesford is just a village, so for serious shopping you&#8217;ll need to hot foot it into Cambridge. However, the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/whittlesfordpostoffice/">Village Shop and Post Office</a> sells everyday essentials and it has an impressive display of plants for sale too. There&#8217;s also <a href="https://www.essexframing.com/gift-shop/">The Old School Gift Shop</a> on Old School Lane, and <a href="https://www.oxbowandpeach.co.uk">Oxbow &amp; Peach</a> is a treasure trove of antiques, vintage homewares and knick knacks. You will also be a trolley dash away from an M&amp;S Simply Food on the Pampisford roundabout for when the cupboard&#8217;s empty and only a ready meal will do! </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>

<p>There&#8217;s no gym in the village itself, but two minutes away in next door Pampisford you&#8217;ll find <a href="https://bridgefitness.co.uk/facilities/">Bridge Fitness</a> at Unity Campus, which opened in 2021. You&#8217;ll find a spacious open gym, a studio for yoga and pilates classes and a treatment room for the Injury Active Clinic. there&#8217;s also a coffee bar for a post-workout refuel. In the village itself you&#8217;ll find <a href="https://lifeflowhypnotherapy.co.uk">Life Flow Hypnotherapy and Yoga in the Yurt</a> as well as Viva Pilates with Jacqui and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/clubbercisecambridgewithelisa/?locale=en_GB">Clubbercise with Elisa</a>. The nearest doctors surgery is in Sawston, and for a dentist it&#8217;s back over to Pampisford.  </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY </h2>



<p>For a small village there&#8217;s a lot going on. Mums can meet at baby classes or Tumble Tots in the <a href="https://whittlesfordhall.co.uk/whats-on/regular-user-groups/">Memorial Hall</a>. There are also all the usual adult clubs you&#8217;d expect in a country village from a Flower Club and Gardening Club to Carpet Bowls and Choir! There are also annual events such as a Curiosity Fair, Beer Festival at The Tickell Arms and the classic village fete. </p>

<p>How about an Imperial War Museum? <a href="https://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-duxford">IWM Duxford</a> air museum is less than a mile away and rare and historic planes can often be seen flying over the gardens of Whittlesford. (It&#8217;s not flight path territory, don&#8217;t worry; just the odd Spitfire and Hurricane doing aeronautics as you hang the washing out!) The museum is a treasure trove and you can spend days here exploring the hangars  stuffed with history. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Both Whittlesford Memorial Hall and the church hold events – think vintage sales, arts and craft fairs and exhibitions. You&#8217;re also not far from <a href="https://www.staplefordgranary.org.uk">Stapleford Granary</a>, a music and arts centre. Cambridge offers the bright lights of the city, where you&#8217;ll be able to catch touring theatre, comedy, music and more diverse culture. </p>

<p>Last year properties in Whittlesford sold for well above the national average at £537,403 with the majority of houses being detached. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-nurseries">NURSERIES </h2>



<p>There&#8217;s a pre-school playgroup, <a href="https://www.whittleweb.org.uk/amenities-services/whitsers-playgroup">Whitsers</a>, attached to the village primary school that runs from 9am – 12pm. For longer hours – 8am – 6pm – <a href="https://www.sawstonnursery.org">Sawston Nursery</a> in nearby Sawston is Ofsted rated Outstanding. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p>The only school in the village is <a href="https://www.williamwestley.cambs.sch.uk">William Westley Church of England Primary School</a>, which is Ofsted rated Good. For older kids, <a href="https://sawstonvc.org">Sawston Village College</a> is a very short drive away. It is an easy commute to the best independent schools in Cambridge, including <a href="https://suffolkcambs.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/st-marys-school-cambridge-2/">St Mary&#8217;s</a>, a high-achieving and pastorally strong girls school.  </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>The Fitzwilliam Museum&#8217;s <a href="https://www.hki.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk">Hamilton Kerr Institute</a> is located in Whittlesford. If you&#8217;re a fan of BBC&#8217;s <em>Fake or Fortune</em> you&#8217;ll recognise the name immediately as the very important place that undertakes the conservation of easel paintings for both the public and the museum. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Easy peasy for any London or Cambridge commuters with direct rail links from the village to both cities. Fast trains to London Liverpool Street take just under an hour and there are around 50 services a day. For Cambridge it&#8217;s a short 12 min train ride. The village is right next to the M11 too for Stansted Airport (20 mins). </p>
