Superflashy newsflash: Christmas special!

Festive afternoon teas, DIY wreaths, New Year's Eve plans and reindeer talks - here's all the cool, curated and quirky news you need to know the week before Xmas!

Sip & savour

Is there a more festive tipple around than Ely Gin Co’s special edition mince pie-flavoured gin (£13)? We think not. Full of spice and winter warmth, it’s our fave Christmas snack bottled – best put it on the shopping list now!

Hot new homeware

We’re crushing on just-opened Nara Cambridge this week, a new online company selling covetable homeware we’d like in our house this Christmas (hint). Set up by Cambridge-based mum-of-two Alexandra, browse the tableware, glass, ceramics and accessories for pressie ideas and feel good knowing you’re supporting a new indie store!

Deer diary…

Throughout December there’s a free reindeer talk included in your entry ticket to Jimmy’s Farm, so kids get to see them up close and learn fun info too, like the fact male reindeer’s antlers fall off each winter but females retain theirs until spring, meaning Rudolph’s actually a girl!
Also, more tickets have just been released for the previously sold-out breakfast with Santa event, 18-24 Dec, which kicks off at 9.30am and lasts for around two hours – £30 for kids, £25 for adults – grab them before they go!

Wake up to 2022 in style!

Haven’t sorted New Year’s Eve out yet? Go epic this year and book a mini staycation at gorgeous townhouse hotel The Northgate in Bury St Edmunds. Its two-night NYE package includes jazz, fizz, food and even some mystery gifts when you arrive in your room! From £299.

Wreath all about it!

Not got around to your Christmas wreath yet? Fear not, Wild Frost Cafe in Somersham still has some great DIY kits left (£42.50), including ring, foliage, fruits, cones, cinnamon sticks, filler flowers and berries. You also get a ribbon or bow of your choice and in-depth instructions. All you need is a good pair of scissors and you’re sorted!

Afternoon tea at Quy!

Treat yourself to an Xmas afternoon tea! There are still some slots available at Quy Mill, which is serving a special Christmas tea (£22.50) from 2-5pm until 24 Dec. Includes scones, handcrafted treats and  mulled wine. Not Xmassy enough for you? Ramp up the celebrations there with an Alpine Retreat package, which includes taxi transfer to Cambridge, spa treatment, afternoon tea, three-course evening meal, over night stay and breakfast, from £300pp.

Let them eat cake

No time to mix, cook and intricately ice a cake between watching nativity plays, buying presents and basting the turkey? Nor us, which is why we love Biscotti Di Debora and their heavenly creations, like this Nutella cake with chocolate trees! There’s still time to order a tasty festive cake – last baking day is 23 Dec for Christmas Eve deliveries around Cambs.

Pizza the action

Take a night off from cooking (after all, there’s a lot more to come) and order some stone-baked sourdough yumminess on pizza night (Thurs 23 Dec) at the Two Magpies bakeries in Southwold or Dersham. Simply email your time slot and pizza choices to cafesouthwold@twomagpiesbakery.co.uk, pick up and devour in front of some must-watch telly!
