Their quirky and nostalgic School Dinners exhibition is a fun family throwback, delving into the good, the bad, and the downright weird of British school meals.</p>



<p>What makes this a rainy day winner? You can make your own retro pudding as part of a hands-on family workshop right inside the exhibition. It’s a unique way to get messy (in a good way), bond across generations, and spark some “back in my day” stories.</p>

<p>Parents of Sudbury, rejoice. A brilliant new play café has landed in town and it’s already one of the hardest bookings to snag. Newly opened in 2026, Little Oaks pairs a calm, Montessori-inspired play space with thoughtful role-play stations that little ones will happily lose themselves in. When we visited, my son made a beeline for the dressing-up rail and spent ages running the shop in full Paw Patrol mode.</p>



<p>Grown-ups are very well looked after too. The café serves proper hot drinks (the hot chocolate is a winner) alongside tempting cakes, plus juices and healthier snacks for the kids. Open <strong>Tuesday to Friday</strong>, it’s right in the centre of town and a perfect place to dodge the drizzle.</p>

<p>This one’s a little bit special. Joy Connection is a warm, welcoming space offering a thoughtfully curated mix of sessions for babies, toddlers and grown-ups. Expect everything from baby groups and toddler soft play to sound bath sessions, postnatal and pregnancy support, plus creative workshops for children and adults alike. Because yes, parents deserve some creativity as well.</p>



<p>There’s an (almost) vegan café on site, making it an easy spot to linger, and a lovely community feel throughout. You’ll also find women’s circles for mums who love high vibes, alongside a strong focus on supporting local brands and championing sustainability. Best of all for rainy-day spontaneity, there’s no need to book for the play cafe. Just turn up and join in.</p>

<p>If you’ve ever visited Thrive Nature Adventures in Dedham, you’ll know the special kind of magic Debbie and her team create. Mud kitchens, digger play, firepits for toasting real marshmallows. It’s a dream day out, unless the weather has other ideas.</p>



<p>Enter Thrive at the Barn. Launched late last year, this warm, sheltered space brings everything families love about Thrive indoors, while still feeling rooted in nature. Led by the same brilliant team, it offers hands-on activities to keep little ones busy, cosy corners for quiet play or a good book, and sessions that run whatever the weather decides to do. Based in Bentley, Suffolk, it’s a brilliant rainy-day back-up that still feels like an adventure.</p>
