<p>Cameras at the ready &#8211; according to <a href="https://www.forestryengland.uk/news/winter-and-spring-downpours-could-lead-vibrant-autumn-say-forestry-england">Forestry England</a> autumn 2024 is a particularly good year for amazing golden displays due to the winter and spring downpours and late summer sunshine. Want to know where to head to take in this stunning natural display before it&#8217;s all gone? We&#8217;ve rounded up some of the loveliest woodland walks in Suffolk and Cambs so you can get out in the fresh air and see some spectacular scenes. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-cambridgeshire">CAMBRIDGESHIRE</h2>

<p>This National Trust property is at its most stunning in autumn with plenty of spots to admire wonderful red, gold, orange and brown leaves. Our favourite places for photos are the wow-factor Jubilee Walk, The Riverside Walk, The Temple Lawn and Pilgrim&#8217;s Lawn, which has a display on unbelievable reds and purples. </p>

<p>You don&#8217;t have to leave the city to get your autumn colour fix. The huge Cambridge University Botanic Garden is a treasure trove of seasonal displays, with a whole garden dedicated to the season, with specifically chosen plants and trees to show off the best hues of autumn. </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.cambridgeppf.org/pages/category/wandlebury-country-park">Wandlebury County Park, Cambridge</a> </h3>

<p>There are around 140 acres of woodland at this south Cambridge country park, so you can imagine just how pretty that looks when all the trees are turning. Look out for the ancient and magnificent beech trees while you&#8217;re walking the 8 miles of trails, which really put on a spectacular show.  </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/wicken-fen-nature-reserve/features/wicken-fen-autumn">Wicken Fen, Ely</a> </h3>



<p>Another National Trust property, but this one is all about the unique fen landscape and wildlife. With so many reeds there&#8217;s a gorgeous golden hue to this fenland in autumn and the chance to see the arrival of autumn migrants. </p>

<p>Head to the remembrance meadow area of this glorious country park in autumn and you&#8217;ll see the maple and oak trees (planted to remember allied forces who were killed in the D-Day landings) in their full glory. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s easy to see spectacular autumn scenes at Wimpole. Simply follow the meandering path through the Walled Garden and you&#8217;ll see a kaleidoscope of seasonal hues. The wider grounds have yet more colourful displays if you want to walk further. </p>

<p>With Thetford forest at the north of our county there&#8217;s a lot of scope to see stunning seasonal scenes in Suffolk (phew how&#8217;s that for alliteration?). Our top two picks for autumn colour in this forest is High Lodge and Lynford Arboretum, which is particularly well known for autumnal fungi and amazing colour. </p>

<p>This National Trust property has particularly gorgeous grounds with an excellent section of woodland. The Albana walk is an easy one hour trail inside the woods, where you can see some delightful seasonal sights. For the best autumn colour though head towards Mordabouy’s Cottage and then through the valley where you’ll see the colours of Arthur’s Wood, Dairy Wood, Twist Wood and Horsepool Wood.</p>

<p>The garden and arboretum at this Suffolk garden centre are definitely worth a visit in autumn thanks to an abundance of unique and different trees showing off their autumn hues and the air full of the scent of sweet fruit trees. If you&#8217;re inspired you can even buy some bits for your garden on the way home. </p>

<p>With so many amazing trees there&#8217;s loads to see in this park in autumn. One of the best areas is the oak-tree shaped maze made up of over 2,500 hornbeam trees, while the Lime Avenue is always worth a visit. </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.ipswich.gov.uk/services/christchurch-park">Christchurch Park, Ipswich </a></h3>



<p>There are some seriously old oak and chestnut trees in Ipswich&#8217;s Christchurch Park and they are truly heavenly in autumn. In fact, it&#8217;s so pretty that famous Suffolk artist Thomas Gainsborough immortalised the season in his glorious &#8216;View of Ipswich from Christchurch Park&#8217;&nbsp;c.1746-9. </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.whatsonwestsuffolk.co.uk/parks/brandon-country-park/">Brandon Country Park</a></h3>



<p>Copper Beech Avenue and the arboretum with its giant redwood trees in Brandon Country Park are a must visit in autumn &#8211; they&#8217;re an instagrammer&#8217;s paradise. Once you&#8217;ve done all your seasonal snapping there&#8217;s a café on site to warm you back up. </p>
