The Ivy Bar and Brasserie – Cambridge

If you want a bit of glam in your life then head to the fabulous Ivy Bar and Brasserie on Trinty Street in central Cambridge.

The London Ivy restaurant has always been a favourite of stars of screen and stage, and the brasseries, now dotted around London and other UK counties, have managed to retain some of the VIP feel. The decor is plush velvet seating, in bright greens and oranges, with a mix of brightly coloured modern art and fabulous vintage posters and prints on every available wall space.  You can turn up in your jeans mid-shopping trip, but you can also go all out and dress up and you won’t feel out of place.

The whole bar area is lovely – sparkling with shiny glasses and gold trimmings, and there is space both at the bar on stalls or on lower banquettes just for the drinkers. Cocktail staff are very well-trained – Martini’s are perfectly balanced and we also love the summer gin mixes with pretty pansies as a garnish, accompany with truffle arancini balls or courgette fries and you can happily lose a few hours people-watching.

The amazing breakfasts and brunches are a must-try- with heavy silver tea or coffee pots, and deliciously prepared classics like Eggs Benedict or warm and fluffy pancakes. The veggie full breakfast is great if you’re really hungry – with halloumi, beans, eggs, and avo. For lunch or dinner, the choice is vast, we love the unctuous shepherd’s pie, or the tasty chicken Milanese.

There is now a temperature check machine on the way in to the venue and tables are well spaced, so you will feel safe and secure in this elegant and classy joint. Book in advance if you can.
