Hinchingbrooke Country Park
Muddy says: A fantastic day out for the whole family, that’ll have the kids forgetting about iPads and TV and see them exploring nature and playing happily in the great outdoors.
Gorgeous Hinchingbrooke Country Park has something for everyone – from Little Miss and Master Muddy and Fido the dog, to exhausted parents needing some air and grandma and grandpa, with his binoculars and fishing rod. You can even park up your horse box and go for a hack if you’re a budding Mary King.
There are 170 acres of open Green Flag award-winning grasslands, mature woodland and lakes to explore, with play areas that cater for all ages – so take the kids when they need to let off some steam. After all that fresh air, there’s a delightful café serving homemade breakfast, lunches and cakes and tea, If your kids are as impatient as mine, you’ll love that you can order your food before your walk, so it’s ready for rumbling little tummies when you return. Little ones will also love the on-site apiary with a viewing gallery, so they can get up close and personal with the bees and learn about keeping them. You can buy the honey to take home afterwards in the café.
Keep an eye out too, for the extensive events programme that the park runs. Christmas is a particular highlight with a craft fair, magical grotto and the chance to meet Santa over a hot chocolate. Throughout the rest of the year there’s an event at least once a week. We’re talking everything from family campfire cookery and a Robin Hood day with outdoor cinema screening to pond dipping and quiz nights. There are even dedicated days for the four-legged members of the family like Bark in the Park. They’ve thought of everything! Check out the full list here.
