Well, we have some good news for East Anglia residents because this slice of green paradise called Ferry Meadows can be found in Peterborough and we assure you it really is as idyllic as it all sounds.

Ferry Meadows is part of the larger Nene Park Estate (which also includes other must-visit outdoors spaces – Orton Meadows, Orton Mere, Woodston Reach, Thorpe Meadows and The Rural Estate). Ferry Meadows is the jewel in the park’s crown offering something different for every type of outdoors lover. Whether you seek solitude and the chance to be at one with wildlife, awesome family activities that delight both kids and adults, adrenaline-inducing activities or a chance to work on your health and wellbeing as part of a group or on your own you’ll find it at Ferry Meadows.

With a visitor centre and two cafés, play areas, Nene Outdoors Watersports and Activity Centre, where you can hire swan or dragon pedalos, kayaks and paddleboards, and sign up for courses and clubs as well as an adventure railway and a camp site – it’s a truly amazing place and should be top of your list for when the kids moan that they’re bored!

Summer is of course a wonderful time to enjoy all that the great outdoors has to offer and there are brilliant events to help you make the most of it, such as the Nature Tots parent and toddler groups, Wild Home Educator sessions, wildlife events, guided walks and boat trips as well as outdoor cinema screenings and music in the park. Over the school holidays the team at Ferry Meadows pull out all the stops to keep children active and happy (and parents sane!) with a whole host of special events and interesting activities. In the colder months there are special themed events such as a Winter Festival to get you in the Christmas spirit and fun-filled events around Halloween.
