Fancy escaping to the country for some peace and tranquillity but not up for pitching your own tent? Fenland Retreats could be just what the doctor ordered. With luxurious private bathrooms, hot tubs, and fire pits they’re the perfect place to book for an off-grid, eco-friendly getaway that still comes with a lot of the swish amenities you’d expect from a posh hotel.

This pretty rural glampsite is based on the family-run Willow Grange Farm (also a wedding venue so the retreats could be brilliant wedding accommodation too). You can choose between two Safari Lodges, that sleep up to 4 people, and two Shepherd’s Huts that sleep 2 people.

The country-cool retreats are all spaced away from each other with plenty of planting and fencing in between making them delightfully private, plus you won’t have to listen to any strangers snoring. They all have their own wood-fired hot tubs too, so if it’s a romantic break you’re seeking you can sit back and relax in the bubbles with a drink as the sun sets over the fens.

A stay here is ideal for anyone who loves the idea of camping and being at one with nature, but can’t quite bring themselves to slum it under canvas. The retreats all have proper double beds, wood burners, electricity, kitchen areas, private hot showers and flushing toilets (joy of joys). But if you want to immerse yourself in the great outdoors, you can toast marshmallows and cook over the fire pit while you enjoy unspoiled views over the farm’s fields.

When it comes to food, you don’t have to ruin the bucolic idyll by shlepping out to the supermarket. Fenland Retreats offers a food and drink delivery service, as well as BBQ packs and in the morning you can wake up to a fresh continental or bacon buttie breakfast. On arrival you’ll also receive a welcome hamper containing key items for your stay such as milk, olive oil, salt & pepper, tea, coffee, sugar, fresh eggs and a couple of extra treats too.

There’s plenty to keep you busy nearby, including the charming, bijou city of Ely with its incredible cathedral and riverside activities, as well as the colleges and historic buildings of Cambridge. Wildlife enthusiasts will love Wicken Fen while active types can go fishing, or hike and bike the local trails. There’s a whole host of family attractions in the area too.
