<p>As the saying goes &#8220;a picture paints a thousand words&#8221; and this aerial shot certainly does a splendid job of showing off Heritage Beauty &amp; Wellbeing Centre&#8217;s gorgeous location. The rural day spa is on the edge of Nowton Park in Bury St Edmunds and occupies one part of the stately red brick 19th century Nowton Court Manor House (the other half is luxury supported living, so it&#8217;s seriously quiet and no chance of any noise during your treatment). As soon as you enter the private driveway, the bucolic setting with its many huge trees and gorgeous grounds puts you in a calm and relaxed mood ready to find an even higher level of zen inside. </p>

<p>Heritage Beauty is run by the lovely Rebecca and her loyal and talented team, and has been in this idyllic spot since 2016. It&#8217;s one of those hidden gems that you&#8217;ll feel rather smug to know about and a lot of their custom is generated by word of mouth from very satisfied customers. Case in point &#8211; I heard about Heritage from my mother, who raves about her visits here, so I was more than thrilled to get my first chance to test out the next-level tranquility and superior treatments on offer. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>Every corner of this charming day spa is peaceful and plush, from the large softly lit relaxation lounge and cute nail bar corner to the stunning arched ceiling treatment rooms and even the smart bathroom. I didn&#8217;t see another soul during my two hours here, although I know other people were there somewhere. As most of the spa is located below ground in a warren of characterful exposed brick rooms with super thick walls there&#8217;s a sense of being in a cosy cocoon. So, if solitude and peace and quiet are key to a successful spa visit then this is the place for you. </p>

<p>Don&#8217;t bother packing your best bikini though because Heritage isn&#8217;t a day spa with a pool or wet facilities, it&#8217;s more of a treatment retreat where the whole focus is on delivering outstanding massages, facials, nail treatments and facial aesthetics. If I had the time (and let&#8217;s face it, the budget!) I&#8217;d book in here every week for a wellbeing and skincare top-up. It doesn&#8217;t have to be a quick in and out visit either, Heritage Beauty also does well-priced pamper days and Rebecca can even create bespoke packages for small groups for special occasions like hen dos and baby showers.  </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-treatment">THE TREATMENT</h2>



<p>In a word &#8211; wow! I&#8217;m a real spa treatment lover and have been fortunate enough to enjoy many massages and facials in my time, but Heritage Beauty really does stand out from the crowd. Keen to try something different I opted for the Hydrotherm Full Body Massage &#8211; a three-dimensional massage system where two warm water cushions support perfect spinal alignment, enabling a full body massage to be carried out while you lie on your back. As I&#8217;m claustrophobic so not a fan of lying face down and have a dodgy back from years spent hunched over my laptop it sounded like the perfect choice. It&#8217;s a treatment that would suit anyone though, from expectant mums to the physically active and even elderly customers or anyone suffering from cancer.  </p>

<p>My therapist was the amazing Debs, whose gentle manner, hypnotic voice and clever hands had me in a state of pure relaxation within minutes. I imagine she&#8217;s much in demand with the repeat customers here. The water bed was also a huge help in taking me from tight and stressed to completely chilled much more quickly than usual in a treatment. It was like a big warm hug and the slight swaying sensation each time Debs pressed down on me was like being rocked to sleep. Debs massaged me from head to toe, working carefully on any knotty areas, but without causing any discomfort and helping me truly let go of every muscle in my always tense body. I loved not having to turn over half way through, which I often finds interrupts the flow of a massage and by the end of the treatment I was in that blissful state between sleep and wakefulness. Debs was also meticulous at making sure each part of my body that had been massaged was tucked up in a towel afterwards, so that I was snug as a bug in a rug.</p>

<p>As I always dread the moment a therapist says &#8220;all finished now&#8221;, I was delighted that I had another half hour of pure bliss ahead in the form of a Dermalogica Pro30 Facial. This 30-minute facial was completely customised and Debs chose specific products to help combat my dry skin concerns. As well as using heavenly-smelling Dermalogica products, she also used ultrasonic technology (a nice pulsing sensation, nothing painful or invasive) to help enhance the absorption and effectiveness of the products. So, while it was a relatively speedy facial, the results were excellent and I left with plump, dewy skin that lasted a long time. </p>



<p>Not sure gently rocking around on a warm water bed dreaming you&#8217;re on a lilo in The Maldives is for you? No worries, because Heritage Beauty has a treatment menu covering everything from maintenance (waxing, eyebrow shaping and tinting, manis and pedis) to indulgent, yet effective facials, massages and holistic treatments like reflexology and aromatherapy massages. If you’re after a more results-driven treatment, there&#8217;s also non-invasive Dermalux LED Phototherapy or you can go down the facial aesthetics route with CPD accredited, registered nurse Nicola, who is a specialist in injectable aesthetic treatments.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-verdict">THE VERDICT</h2>

<p>In two hours I went from frazzled mum of two young kids, running late and in flap because I underestimated the Bury St Edmunds morning traffic (give yourself an extra 10 mins, it&#8217;s a popular place!), to completely zen, glowing and feeling like I didn&#8217;t have a care in the world. So I&#8217;d say that&#8217;s two hours very well spent. Stepping off the hamster wheel and booking yourself in for a treatment at Heritage isn&#8217;t an indulgence, it&#8217;s essential mind and body maintenance and an excellent way to work on your overall wellbeing. </p>
