It&#8217;s a brilliant concept and is ideal for people who are time-poor, not a fan of traditional spas or anyone who lives a long distance from a spa (so that&#8217;s most of us in Cambridgeshire, because let&#8217;s face it we&#8217;re not exactly overrun with sensational spas here!).</p>

<p>The whole process, from booking to peeling yourself off the heated massage bed at the end of your treatment, is stress-free and enjoyable. You simply book your slot on the user-friendly website and then a lovely therapist turns up at your door like the spa version of a fairy godmother and turns your chosen space into a treatment room in minutes. My therapist was the delightful owner of Tiny House Retreats, Jane, who turned up ten minutes before my treatment, told me to sit back and relax and then waved her magic wand over my lounge to fill it with a full size massage bed, basket of products, candles and music. My lounge has never looked more inviting. </p>

<p>The real beauty of an at-home spa treatment is that there&#8217;s no driving to the spa (getting stuck in traffic, searching for the spa and finding a parking space etc.). And, blissfully at the end you can simply flop from the massage bed onto your sofa and stay in your treatment-induced state of zen for the rest of the day. Although I&#8217;m a true spa day enthusiast, I always dislike having to enter the real world again straight after a relaxing treatment. This was where the Tiny House Retreats experience really stood out. I chose a cold mid-January day when I wasn&#8217;t on school run duty and I didn&#8217;t have to leave the house again. Instead, after my massage I padded around in my robe in a dreamlike state all afternoon. I didn&#8217;t even have to wash the oil out my hair or off my body, because I wasn&#8217;t seeing anyone, meaning it could take maximum effect. </p>

<p>Jane suggested the dreamy Best of Both treatment for me (a 30-min back, neck and shoulder massage followed by a 30-min brightening and nourishing facial) and, as I can never choose between the two, I was happy to accept! There are plenty of treatments to suits all tastes though, including massages (hot stone, Swedish, deep tissue, mum-to-be, aromatherapy and Indian head), facials (revive &amp; renew, luxury and express), lashes, and special packages (seasonal treatments and the idyllic sounding two-hour Top to Toe!)</p>



<p>Tiny House Retreats use local products from Hertfordshire, a brand called Evolve, and I can hands-down say they were the nicest smelling products I&#8217;ve ever experienced. Each one smelled of a different fruit and, as well as enjoying the feeling of the treatment, I also found the full sensory experience with the tasty scents a revelation. </p>

<p>To say I was in good hands for my treatment is an understatement &#8211; Jane studied International Spa Management and then became a Spa Trainer and Assessor at the University of Derby (training up the next generation of top therapists). She&#8217;s also worked as a Beauty Therapist, Treatment Manager and Spa Manager at the Buxton Devonshire Spa. </p>



<p>She was certainly as good as her CV promised, managing that holy grail of massages &#8211; releasing the tension from my poor knot-ridden shoulders without causing me any pain. Hovering on the precipice of sleep I then turned over for my facial. Jane expertly plied my face with layer upon layer of quenching Evolve products, including a gorgeous gold shimmering mask. A blissful head massage followed and the treatment ended with the gentle sound of some meditation cymbals. And then I floated off to my sofa in a serene state while Jane magicked my lounge back to its normal look. </p>

<p>Just because the treatment is taking place in your own home, it&#8217;s certainly not a basic service and there are no missing elements that you&#8217;d usually associate with a destination spa. The massage bed was heated, delightfully warm flannels appeared from apparently nowhere when Jane was removing products from my face, knee and shoulder pillows kept me comfortable, tranquil spa music blocked out any noises and I was snug the whole way through with plenty of towels and a fleecy blanket covering the parts of my body that weren&#8217;t being worked on. My only fear was that the doorbell would go or the dog would start barking, but thankfully it was lovely and quiet throughout. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p>My skin in the days following the facial was amazing and really glowing. I really believe that&#8217;s because I had the chance to let all the products soak in and didn&#8217;t have to wash it off to enter the real world after my treatment. I&#8217;ve also never felt so stress-free for so long after a treatment, again because I was at home and could retreat in my own space away from the demands of modern life. It&#8217;s safe to say I&#8217;m a real at-home spa convert!</p>



<p><strong>Good for: </strong>People who live far from spas, don&#8217;t have much time, aren&#8217;t keen on big busy spas or who want to hibernate in their own space after a treatment. Tiny House Retreats would also be ideal for anyone who&#8217;s just had a baby and wants to be home and near to their new bundle of joy or pregnant ladies who prefer not to drive. We&#8217;d 100% book the team for a small baby shower or pamper party too. </p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> Anyone whose house is a constant hive of activity &#8211; you need to feel calm and stress-free in your own space. </p>
