Who in their right mind takes out a bright yellow electric car with a giant pouncing cat decal on the side for a spin around rainy Suffolk? That’d be me, obviously. All in the name of research — and a chance to escape the midweek meetings for a morning.

Enter, the <a href="https://www.ford.co.uk/cars/puma-gen-e#intro">Ford Puma Gen-E</a>. The UK&#8217;s best-selling vehicle is now electrified! This zippy little electric SUV is built for the everyday grind — school drops, office dashes, spontaneous coffee runs, and everything in between. It’s city-ready with fast charging and fancy tech, and comes rolling out on 17-inch alloys. I, naturally, went one better and tried the Premium version with 18-inch wheels, Matrix LED headlights, and a B&amp;O sound system that could probably DJ your next party.

If you’ve ever loved a Fiesta (guilty — I’ve owned two), the Puma feels like its glow-up cousin. But what really impressed me? The clever bits. Ford’s not just slapped on some shiny tech and called it a day. This thing thinks ahead. Sensors under the boot mean you can close it hands-free (ideal when you&#8217;re balancing Ocado bags and a toddler meltdown), and finger sensors on the handles mean no key rummaging. Honestly, it&#8217;s like the car gets me.

And don’t let the family angle put you off if your kids are more teen than toddler. This isn’t just a pram-and-nappy-mobile. There’s proper room in the back for long limbs and taller teens. Got a 6ft something sprawled across your back seats? They’ll be surprisingly comfy — and they might even admit it (quietly).

What I really loved about this car is how resourceful it is. The boot space is a winner, yes, but <a href="https://suffolkcambs.muddystilettos.co.uk/home/cars/muddy-reviews-the-brand-new-all-electric-ford-capri/">Ford</a> have clearly thought through the whole experience. The dashboard and steering wheel are neatly streamlined — no pointless clutter — and they’ve made some nifty changes. Spoiler alert: the windscreen wipers and indicators are on the same stick. I know, I know. But don’t panic — it’s not some baffling new system. It’s your usual up/down for indicators, with a quick twist for the wipers. And it came in very handy on my test drive, which featured both blazing sunshine and biblical rain. Hello, April showers!



Oh, and what’s on the right stick, I hear you ask? That’s where they’ve popped the gear stick. Sounds odd, works brilliantly. As someone who regularly mixes up left and right, this layout made total sense to me — and felt intuitive from the off.

And if you’re still suffering from range anxiety (relatable), the built-in Sat Nav has your back. It not only tells you where the nearest charger is, but when you’ll actually need to stop. Smart, right? Less faffing, more driving.

Range-wise, you’re looking at up to 233 miles, which is solid for daily duty. If you’re planning to haul the entire family to Cornwall and back, you might want to check out the Ford Kuga instead (more on that soon), but for the everyday? The Ford Puma Gen-E is a dream. Smooth, nimble, comfortable — and dare I say, a bit of fun.

The Muddy Verdict



Good for: Busy families who need room for all the bags (school, sports, snacks, life&#8230;) or drivers after an electric car that doesn’t feel like a spaceship. The Ford Puma Gen-E has that lovely “jump in and go” vibe — it’s intuitive, friendly, and easy to love.



Not for: Long-distance road warriors clocking up thousands of motorway miles every month. With a 233-mile range, it’s built for the everyday, not the epic.



The damage: Two models to choose from — prices start at £29,995 on the road for the Puma Select, rising to £31,995 for the Premium version (the one with all the fancy trimmings).
