If you’re going to splash out on designer smalls, it’s always gotta be Stella. Is there anything &amp; Other Stories can’t do? Its lingerie comes in fabulously confident colour combos that you just don’t see anywhere else. Cult Dutch indie brand Love Stories is brilliant for smaller-busted women, with its focus on comfort and zero underwiring promising “a holiday for your boobs”. There’s no need to spell out your intentions in this <a href="https://lovestoriesintimates.com/global/shop/darling-l921002800" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">racy leopard number</a> (60 Euros) and, because they’re into very modern mismatching, there’s a selection of knickers to wear with it.

OK, this is for the last of the big spenders. Super-luxe brand Coco de Mer have collaborated with the V&amp;A (strange but true) and the results are really rather beautiful. This teal bird and palm tree-print, <a href="https://www.coco-de-mer.com/product/the-va-by-coco-de-mer-lovers-palm-plunge-bra/?v=79cba1185463" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Art Deco-inspired bra</a> is – eeek! &#8211; £195, with <a href="https://www.coco-de-mer.com/product/the-va-by-coco-de-mer-lovers-palm-bikini-brief/?v=79cba1185463" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">matching kecks</a> for £125.

John Lewis’s Modern Rarity in-house brand is known for its knitwear and coats but they do some rather nice scanties too. We love this unusual <a href="https://www.johnlewis.com/modern-rarity-viola-embroidered-non-padded-bra/black/p3801901" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">delicate print bra</a> (£40) and underwear (£18) set.

Don’t forget good ol’ M&amp;S. For special occasion scanties, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s line for Autograph should be your first port of call (tip – her nightwear is excellent too).
