<p>Children can board from Year 3, with options ranging from full and weekly to the highly popular flexi boarding. In fact, many pupils dip in and out across the week (Tuesdays and Thursdays are particularly lively nights), making it an ideal solution for busy family schedules. A big plus? Every flexi boarder has their own bed waiting for them.</p>

<p>Boarding here feels reassuringly homely rather than institutional. Girls are based on the second floor of the beautiful mansion, with shared dorms designed to give each child their own private space thanks to clever bespoke beds. The result? A lovely mix of camaraderie and personal space, with sweeping views across the River Orwell thrown in for good measure.</p>



<p>Boys are housed on the first floor in spacious rooms with impressively high ceilings and a huge shared common room that quickly becomes the social hub of the house.</p>



<p>Members of the teaching staff are actively involved in boarding life too, which means the atmosphere feels like a genuine family, which parents and children love.</p>

<p>Life as a boarder strikes a great balance between structure and freedom. After lessons, pupils throw themselves into the school’s ASPIRE Programme, which offers everything from sport and outdoor adventures to creative arts and enrichment activities.</p>



<p>Evenings bring a relaxed rhythm: shared meals, time for prep and plenty of opportunities to unwind with friends in the common rooms.</p>

<p>Pastoral care is central to the boarding experience. Staff build strong relationships with pupils so there’s always someone on hand to offer support, reassurance or simply a listening ear.</p>



<p>Cosy dorms, extensive outdoor space and a dedicated medical centre all contribute to a safe, supportive environment where children can grow in confidence while still feeling completely at home.</p>



<p>Weekends have a gentler pace, with trips, activities and relaxed downtime adding to that “home from home” feel. Regular communication with parents ensures families stay connected, while homesickness is handled with sensitivity and care.</p>

<p>Founded in 1868, Orwell Park is a co-educational rural prep day and boarding school in Nacton near Ipswich, where pupils benefit from an enviable balance: strong academic achievement alongside a genuinely enriching curriculum, all within a spectacular natural setting.</p>



<p>From September 2026 the school will be led by new Head Alex McCullough, a highly respected prep school leader with more than 30 years’ experience across both day and boarding schools.</p>
