<p>The Crown is well-known locally for producing really great grub, from breakfast through to dinner and Sunday lunch, best enjoyed in winter in front of one of their two roaring log fires. There&#8217;s also a really cool winter tipi in the pretty garden, so you can even cosy up outside, with warming rugs and heat lamps. You&#8217;re in Constable Country here too, so pack those wellies for a scenic post-meal winter walk. </p>

<p>The Brewers in Rattlesden, a lovely village between Bury and Stowmarket, is a charming and cosy pub with exposed bricks, low beams and a roaring open fire in winter. The food might be sophisticated, but this is still an unpretentious community pub at heart, and they do one hell of a Sunday roast that&#8217;ll warm you right up on a cold winter weekend. </p>

<p>This gorgeous Cambs pub won a Muddy Award in 2022 for Best Boutique Stay, but we reckon they should get an award for cosiest pub too, because their pretty snug with a huge open fireplace is heavenly. The cosy vibe continues in the bar area with a smart log burner as well as outside where there&#8217;s a tipi with faux fur rugs, heaters and warming lamps. We can vouch for both the food and service being topnotch too. </p>

<p>The Fort St George is ideally placed for a winter warm-up after a walk along the river near Midsummer Common. It&#8217;s all old worldy charm here with a cute snug and lots of exposed bricks, wooden floors, low beams with twinkly lights, lovely river views and an open fire. It was the pub of choice for a winter lunch for Prince William and Kate Middleton a while back too, so it has the royal seal of approval. </p>

<p>There&#8217;s no denying that The Tickell Arms is incredible in the summer, with its magical garden. Don&#8217;t overlook this destination pub in winter though, because the inside is an elegant and welcoming space to cosy up in, with a lovely log burner and all those pretty interior details like pointed arch doorways. Plus, the food here is fabulous all year round. </p>

<p>A two-way fireplace &#8211; now that&#8217;s a good idea, and means you&#8217;ve got double the chance of bagging the top spot in front of the log burner. It&#8217;s not just the fire we love about this pub, The Boot in Histon is full of characterful touches and has been refurbished to a really high standard. The oak-beamed brasserie is a thing of beauty and manages to be both cosy in winter and bright and light-filled in summer. </p>

<p>Race you to that chair right in front of the fire. I spent a very enjoyable rainy winter afternoon in that exact spot last year, indulging in a sumptuous three course mid week meal while slowly cooking myself in front of the roaring fire. Even if you&#8217;re not right by the fireplace, you&#8217;ll get warm cosy vibes from this pretty pub by the coast. The interiors are sumptuous and welcoming and there are lots of nooks and crannies to call your own for a few hours. </p>

<p>A visit to this 16th century pub is like stepping back in time, especially in winter when the cosy and bijou bar has a log burner blazing away. It&#8217;s been a welcome refuge for hundreds of years to likes of Samuel Pepys and the US Army Air Forces in WW2! Today it&#8217;s a really charming village pub where you&#8217;ll find dogs sprawled out in front of the fire, locals propping up the bar and lots of quaint little corners to enjoy the vast menu (we suggest going for the tapas selection if you&#8217;re hungry!). </p>

<p>The Punchbowl, set in the picturesque village of Horningsea, is an effortlessly elegant Grade II listed pub where you can snuggle in front of the inviting roaring fire over the winter months. The pub has retained a stylish olde-worlde charm with warm painted walls and original timber beams, and serves one of the best Sunday roasts for miles. </p>

<p>Set in the beautiful village of Elton, about 5 miles west of Peterborough, The Crown Inn is everything that a pub should be – thatched, warm and inviting.
