The best Christmas markets in Suffolk & Cambs

Is it even Christmas if you haven't eaten scalding chestnuts from a chalet hut? Do your festive shopping right this year at these merry markets happening across the counties.

Cambridge Science Park Christmas Market, Cambridge, 9 Dec

Kick-start your shopping by browsing the stalls at this short but sweet Xmas fair, where you can enjoy free mince pies and mulled wine while you browse the crafty stalls selling everything from hand-painted silk scarves to Xmas decs and wood carvings. Five food trucks, a mobile craft beer van and the Salvation Army playing Christmas carols completes the scene. Taking place between 11.30am – 2.30pm.

Saxmundham Christmas Fair, Suffolk, 3 Dec

Victorian themed this year, so strap on your bodice and bonnet (not really, a scarf and gloves is much more sensible) and hit the high street for carols, mulled wine, oh and some shopping too. From 4-8pm.

Wisbech Christmas Fayre, Cambs, 12 Dec

Stalls will line Market Street and the High Street where you can to pick up some gifts for Christmas, plus plenty of seasonal food to tempt your tastebuds, from roast chestnuts to chocolate baileys liquor, plus live music and Santa and his reindeer too!

Not only can you see the stalls packed full of Xmas goodies, you can also buy your Christmas tree, visit Santa’s grotto and even take part in a 5K Santa fun run (costume provided!) to raise money for local charities. From 2-7pm.

Trinity Park Christmas Market, Ipswich, Suffolk, 4 Dec

More than 70 indies in the area are descending on Trinity Park to get you in the Christmas spirit, with stalls selling everything from gifts, toys and decorations to festive food and drink. There’ll also be a Santa’s grotto and money raised from the fair is going to the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity, so it’s for a good cause too. From £6, 10.30am-6pm.

Felixstowe Christmas Market, Suffolk, 11 Dec

Beach Street fun for all the fam, including Xmas stalls, food, drink and kids’ activities including meeting the main man in Santa’s grotto. From 10am-4pm.

And over the border!

Garon Park, Southend, Essex, 10-24 Dec

Offering up a trad Christmas market in the centre of its festive spectacular, Essex Christmas Wonderland really is your one-stop-shop for all Noël activities this year. Think fairground rides, ice-rink sessions, mulled-wine tastings and, of course, a quality selection of Christmas-themed goodies to pick up from the artisanal market. Just be sure to congratulate yourself with an eggnog (or three) when the Xmas shop is officially done.
