cambridge folk festival

As folk-loving readers will know the Cambridge Folk Festival is one of the longest running folk festivals in the world, having been delighting audiences of around 14,000 people every year since 1965. You don’t have to be a folk fanatic to enjoy this fabulous festival either. It’s known for its unique atmosphere and its eclectic mix of music with the best traditional folk artists from the UK and Ireland rubbing shoulders with cutting edge contemporary acts, the finest American country, blues and roots artists, acclaimed singer songwriters, famous names and world music stars. Simply put, there’s something for everyone here.

There are four stages to choose from at the festival including Stage 1, housed within a giant marquee in front of the main festival arena, Stage 2, a more intimate venue, and Stage 3 that’ll showcase the Celtic Nations’ contribution to folk music. The festival is also particularly good at nurturing new talent, so if you like to be ‘in the know’ and hear emerging artists before everyone else does then you’ll love The Den, a platform for artists under 30 years old to progress their music careers. And if you’ve got youngsters in tow you’ll also want to hotfoot it over to The Hub, a special area for young musicians to take part in workshops, sessions and perform.

As well as a programme of sublime music across the three days, there are loads of great activities and workshops – many with an eco focus – for adults and children to take part in, such as instrument making, willow sculpture, knitting, songwriting, drawing, storytelling, clog dancing, juggling, paddling, den building, tai-chi, and music making!

Children will be in their element here too, with a play area and paddling pool, music and dance workshops, face painting and a special Sunday Children’s Concert with special guest Nick Cope, who’s returning for a second year.
