Town & Gown Pub & Theatre

City central, multi-level bar (and theatre), great for groups of friends, looking to eat, drink, and be merry.

The Town and Gown opened in 2020 as a lively bar with an upstairs theatre space. The building was previously the B bar and long before that was in fact an Arts cinema, as far back as 1933 and now has entertainment firmly back on the agenda. The top floor of the venue has been converted into a small fringe theatre – the Black Box Theatre-  which will play host to a wide range of shows and experiences to keep punters entertained.

This is a large bar on different levels with plenty of space and a lively party atmosphere. It is adjacent to cocktail bar Ta Bouche and the Fez club, so definitely a great location for those wanting a good night out in Cambridge. The decor of the bar is vintage wood, exposed brick, brass fittings, and we love the giant barrels that have been converted into banquette seating. The spacious interior and different zones allow dining, drinking, dancing, live music, and theatre to take place all at the same time!

Drinks on offer include cocktails, wine, beer, and lots of gins. The food menu is well put together with groups of friends in mind –  nibbles, small plates, and sharing dishes such cauliflower popcorn or mini sausages, wings or nachos. For mains, choose from three different pies with mash, burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, ribs, or for your healthy friend a superfood buddha bowl (there is also a whole gluten-free menu). The Sunday roasts look huge and inviting.

If you want to do something different, or just want a fun place to go with mates, we think the Town and Gown will give you a night to remember.
