Want to leave the world behind for a few days? Head to Suffolk’s brand new back-to-nature retreat, The Farmstead in Easton, near Woodbridge and let the stunning surroundings and clean country air work its magic on you.

The Farmstead is a collection of eight luxurious, yet rustic self-catering lodges in one of the prettiest parts of the Suffolk countryside. There’s a choice of one- or two-bedroom lodges, all nicely set apart from each other, so plenty of space and privacy to enjoy either a romantic or solo break or a family and friends getaway. And, if you can’t imagine escaping to the countryside without your pooch in tow, you’ll be pleased to hear that The Farmstead welcomes up to two dogs per lodge.

Each of the fairytale, woodcutter-inspired lodges has a handmade kitchen, open plan living room with wood burning stove, en suite bathroom and – the pièce de résistance – a private veranda with an outdoor bathtub. The lodges only opened in summer 2022 on a site that was previously farmland attached to the neighbouring wedding venue, Easton Grange. So, as you can imagine in such a gorgeous setting, sustainability and reflecting the natural surroundings was high on the priority list during the build. The lodges were built by local craftsmen using reclaimed materials, the rustic interiors feature beautifully-sourced vintage items and the area around the lodges, which includes a stretch of the River Deben, has been re-wilded.

It’s one thing getting away from it all with a bucolic break, but quite another to go completely off-grid, so if the idea of not being able to charge your phone while you recharge your own batteries brings you out in a cold sweat, fear not, because there’s WiFi and smart TVs in all the lodges. Although even the biggest telly addicts will find they don’t reach for the remote when evenings can be spent enjoying a glass of wine on the veranda with its comfy seats and blankets, followed by a long al fresco soak in the stunning copper baths as the sun sets over Suffolk’s famously big skies.

Not very good a relaxing and doing nothing? Don’t worry, because The Farmstead offers the best of both worlds. It’s undeniably remote, but there’s a private footpath (the heavenly sounding wild flower walk) to the village of Easton with its Muddy-approved village pub, The White Horse, for when you don’t fancy cooking. And, when it comes to nearby attractions to fill your days, you’re spoiled for choice with farm parks, pretty market towns, the Suffolk Heritage Coast, golf courses, and castles all just a few miles down the road. There’s plenty for active types too with miles of trails, paths and forests to explore on foot or by bike.

So, if you like to be ahead of the curve when it comes to knowing the coolest, new places to stay, book yourself into one of these dreamy rustic lodges for a cosy winter break or a sublime summer getaway.
