The Botanical Alchemist

We love this independent and unique mother-and-daughter Suffolk florist that uses seasonal blooms from their own flower farm. With a focus on the symbology of the blooms they use, there’s no better way to say it with flowers.

There’s a lot to love about this Suffolk florist. Not only are the arrangements some of the most beautiful you’ll ever see (seriously, check out their Instagram page here and be prepared to swoon), but this mother-and-daughter team (Diana, head grower and resident plant expert; and Imogen, director and head florist), have their own flower farm, where they grow many of the flowers they use. The flower farm is at the back of the studio, so within minutes the stems are cut and arranged ensuring the freshest flowers from ground to vase. The green-fingered duo plan the year’s flowers together and then Diana does the growing. Talk about the good life! So you know when you order flowers, they’ll be lovingly grown by season to reflect the ever changing trends of popular flowers, plus the ‘flower miles’ are in fact metres. All are grown without pesticides, too, and they recycle their petals and dry them to create stunning biodegradable confetti. Now that’s blooming brilliant!

The Alchemy

And that’s all just for starters… The Botanical Alchemist isn’t your everyday local florist, and as the name suggests, there’s more to this company than simply arranging flowers beautifully. Imogen and Diana have a passion for understanding the power and symbology of flowers, so the arrangements can be much more personalised than your average bunch. Want to tell someone you’ll love them forever? That’ll be Purple Tulips then. Trying to tell someone you appreciate them? You’ll want Hydrangeas. Sending someone strength? Astrantia is your flower.
Forget sending flowers from large faceless companies, where the same arrangement ends up on the doorstep of millions of homes. With The Botanical Alchemist, a floral gift can be unique to the recipient, based on information from the sender on what the person is like, why they’re buying and how they want the receiver to feel. So what begins as a pretty bouquet on deeper inspection becomes a huge sentimental arrangement packed with meaning and intent. It’s really easy to do, too – there’s a quick form to fill in online that’ll send the ingredients for your particular floral potion to Imogen. Once she has this info, the alchemy can begin. Et voilà – you’ll have a bespoke arrangement bursting with meaning.

Weddings and events

The Botanical Alchemist also caters for weddings, events and funerals and the same use of floral language is applied to each and every arrangement. Just imagine how lovely it would be to walk down the aisle with a bouquet that is overflowing with flowers that symbolise love and happiness. For weddings, they even have an option for you to grow your own wedding flowers. You can sow seeds for your bridal bouquet at the flower farm and come and see how they are growing month by month. And, in the saddest of times, The Botanical Alchemist can help ensure that you say your goodbye to a loved one with funeral arrangements based on that person’s unique personality and what they loved during their life.
