Looking to step off the hamster wheel of life for a moment and indulge in some much-needed creative me time and mindfulness? We can’t think of a better place to do so than Paula Armstrong Ceramics, a chilled-out, light-filled and welcoming studio in Fenstanton where anyone can get their creative juices flowing whether they’re a natural Picasso or not.

Artist Paula Armstrong runs the studio and, as well as making her own incredible pieces inspired by the natural world, also imparts her knowledge of how to turn clay – which is basically mud – into something much more beautiful. Anyone, from beginners to experts, is welcome to take part in the classes, with different levels depending on where you’re at in your ceramics journey. It’s a supportive space where you can meet new friends, or if you really don’t want anyone to see your early “works of art” you can book in for a private workshop. Plus, if Fenstanton is a bit of a shlep for you, there are online classes too.

Paula is an inspiring teacher who is passionate about working with clay and truly believes that everyone has the ability to be creative. As well as coaching, she sells her work at local art fairs, online and directly from the studio, so if your first attempts aren’t quite as elegant as you hoped, don’t worry you can always buy her professional pieces as gifts or to add to your own home.

Got little ones who love to get stuck in with a craft activity? Then start them young on their creative journey with an individual or group workshop. Or for an inspired idea for a birthday party that doesn’t involve eating their weight in lollipops and you having to watch yet another kids’ entertainer in action, a crafty clay party at the studio is a fun arty activity that kids will love. Themes can be whatever your little one is passionate about, from unicorns and dragons to a favourite movie.

If you’re itching to get your creative juices flowing and learn a new skill, signing up for a studio membership, where you can enjoy two hours of studio time a week, is a great place to start. Before you know it you’ll be setting up your own exhibition – don’t forget to invite me to the press launch!
