Where to get your local chocolate fix this Easter
Get ready to loosen the waistband on your trousers, Easter is approaching and that means one thing... scoffing as much locally-made chocolate as you like.
Easter is finally here and, if you’re anything like us, it’s an excellent chance to eat your bodyweight in chocolate without feeling the slightest bit of guilt. After all, chocolate calories don’t count on Easter Sunday, do they? To help justify our gluttony though, the Easter bunny in this household has scoured Suffolk and Cambs and snuffled out the very best cocoa-based delicacies made on home soil. So move over Cadbury’s, because there are plenty of local choccies that’ll finding their way into our Easter basket this year…
Hill St. Chocolate
Brothers Greg and Chris are the brains behind this delectable local chocolate shop, with cute boutiques in both Saffron Walden and All Saints Passage in Cambridge. Their Easter eggs are things of beauty, almost too good to eat and would make lovely gifts. The best bit is you can watch the chocolatiers hard at work creating the intricate chocolates. Just watch out for the drool marks my four-year-old left on the glass last time we popped by!
Chocolat Chocolat has moved inside Cambridge’s Grand Arcade, mere steps from John Lewis, so perfectly placed for a post shop sugar injection. The handmade chocolates here are made in the French style and they’re extremely generous when it comes to the samples. There’s something for every type of chocolate lover here, and they even do vegan and free from options.
Harry Specters is a Cambs-based company that sells stunning chocolates created by youngsters with autism. Every single chocolate you devour from this local producer helps improve the life of people living with autism, so this is as close as it gets to guilt-free eating. Their painted Easter eggs are a thing of beauty.
Pump Street Chocolates
The name, the design, the insta-worthy pink exterior of their Orford-based bakery… we love everything about Pump Street Chocolates. This Suffolk baker and chocolatier has a lot of fun with its products and while the taste is seriously good, we always love a business that doesn’t take itself too seriously. You’ll find us munching away on their fun The Chicken and The Egg collection this easter.
Marimba World Chocolates
This family-run Suffolk business is best known for its incredible hot chocolate melts. They have a brilliant range of eye-catching spring chocolates too, and you can pick up some of their elegantly decorated Easter goodies at either of their Cocoa Houses (Bury St Edmunds or Sudbury).
This chocolate company is based in Eye, and create handpainted truffles that look like pieces of art. For Easter you’ll want to get your kids their cute chocolate bunnies and chickens, while you polish off a box of their wow-factor chocolates.
Harris & James
This Beccles-based company makes two of our favourite things – coffee and chocolate. Harris & James comes from the successful family who run Twyfords and they aim to create sustainable, locally-sourced products that have a lot more cocoa than sugar. For Easter, you can get their chic flavoured eggs, including this delectable sounding Peanutty Milk Chocolate egg, delivered.
This tiny artisan chocolatier is based in Woodbridge on the Suffolk coast and they are best known for their melt-in-the-mouth Honey Sea Salt Caramels, made using local products. They don’t do Easter eggs, but all their products change depending on the time of year, so a box of their seasonal truffles on Easter Sunday will go down a treat.
