Can't be ars... er bothered to stuff a turkey and spend hours stirring the bread sauce this year? We've rounded up the best restaurants and delivery services who'll whip up a feast for you, all you have to do is serve!
It’s a strange old year and Christmas isn’t going to be quite like it usually is, so we reckon now is as good a time as any to throw away your apron, crack open the Buck’s Fizz as soon as you wake up on the 25th and order one of these brilliant local Christmas food boxes for you and your guests instead. Some are full Christmas dinners, so all you have to do is bung the food in the oven, while others contain sweet treats that’ll save you from slaving over the stove GBBO-style making pastry and decorating the cake.
BEST FOR FOODIES: Midsummer House’s Christmas Box, £650 for two people
If your guest list is set to just the two of you, why not pamper yourselves and go all out with a box from Cambridge’s most famous gourmet destination – Midsummer House? Everything is cooked by a Michelin-starred chef and comes with wine pairings too – how posh! The box includes a Christmas Eve dinner of chicken terrine, sides, a dessert, a baked camembert and a bottle of sauvignon blanc; as well as salmon, caviar and cuvée for Christmas Day breakfast, followed by turkey and all the trimmings for lunch and sherry triple for pudding.
They’ve taken care of Boxing Day too with a lunch of braised ox cheek and mashed potatoes, finished off with a delice of pear and mulled wine. Also nestled in this culinary delight are carrot cakes, a selection of chocolates, a loaf of sourdough bread and salted butter from The Estate Dairy. The price might sound hefty but with three days worth of food we reckon it’s worth it.
BEST FOR TRADITIONALISTS: Noble House Prepared Christmas in a Box, from £44 for 2 people
Noble House has offices in both London and Cambs so is ideally placed for us East Anglians to get our hands on some of their delicious food prepared by chefs trained by some of the biggest names in the industry. They’ve got three Christmas boxes to choose from – the standard, premium or ultimate Turkey Dinner, all of which include a stuffed joint of Holly Farm Turkey, roasties, pimped up veg, stuffing balls and gravy. If you opt for the ultimate box you can gorge on pigs in blankets, a range of sauces and Christmas pudding too.
BEST FOR FESTIVE FREEZING: Cambridge Cookery’s Christmas to-go menu, from £14
Cambridge Cookery have devised a brilliant menu of festive goodies from the deli, all of which are frozen as soon as they’re made, so you can fill your freezer with meals and treats to whip out whenever you need over the Christmas week. Meals include beet and vodka cured Gravad Lax, beet Wellington, pork terrine with prunes and Armagnac and sweet treats like cinnamon buns, Stollen and white chocolate and cardamom cheesecake.
BEST FOR VARIETY: The Three Blackbirds Woodditton Christmas Takeaway menu, from £33 for three courses
It’s never been more important to support pubs, and thankfully our gorgeous locals are making it very easy with a whole host of fabulous pandemic-friendly initiatives. The Three Blackbirds in Woodditton have the option to dine in this December or to takeaway you Xmas dinner for the big day itself. You can go the whole hog, starting with nibbles, starters, mains, desserts, a ‘to finish’ course and finally some treats for the evening.

BEST FOR A SWEET TOOTH: Fitzbillies Christmas Box, £80
Gift yourself a hamper while you’re snapping up presents for everyone else and have this sweet treat filled Christmas food box as the centrepiece to your celebrations. There’s no need to introduce Fitzbillies to you lovely lot, of course – and this box contains all their best bits: Fitzbillies Chelsea buns for Xmas Day brekkie, mince pies, all-butter shortbread, Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, tea, salted caramel fudge, raspberry conserve and Cambridge Marmalade.
BEST FOR SHARING: The Suffolk Platter‘s Ultimate Christmas Platter, £70 for 4-6 people
If you’ve got three households to feed you’ll want to make sure you’ve got plenty of snacks and goodies to share at all times and we think this sharing platter from Bury St Ed’s The Suffolk Platter has Boxing Day or Christmas Day supper written all over it. They’ll deliver to your door and the platter includes a cheese selection, cured meats, olives, tomato & mozzarella skewers, fresh & dried fruit, vegetables, houmous, smoked salmon pate with homemade bruschetta, brie cranberry & port tarts, sausage rolls & mixed nuts. Yum!
BEST PUB GRUB: The Unruly Pig’s Unruly Christmas Heat at Home Meals, from £25pp for three courses
One of Suffolk’s best gastropubs, The Unruly Pig near Woodbridge, is doing the hard work for you this Christmas. All you have to do is pop the oven on then crack open the mulled wine. The Unruly heat at home meals include four different priced roasts – Suffolk reared Aylesbury duck, free range turkey, free range goose, beef Wellington or veggie risotto with all the trimmings, pud and some local treats for good measure.
All festive period orders need to be placed at the latest by 13 December. Meals for Xmas Day and Boxing Day are available for collection on 23rd or 24th December.
